The price of the smaller MacBook Air 13" with M2 drops to $1,100

That's a $100 discount compared to its launch price. The 13" M1 model is still available and still costs $1,000.

Sorry but in Windows powered laptops i can find 3 times as much specs for same ammount of money.
Paying 1000 for a students laptop worth only brownsing and some students work really does not make any sense.
You can forget on gaming you can forget on many else.
For same price anyoene can buy intel I5 or Ryzen 5 gen CPU along with something like Geforce 3060 maybe 3070 8GB and 16 or even 32GB ram.
This really does not make sense paying 1000+ for just having an apple logo on laptop.

I'm just flawed.....I purchased a 2017 MBP with Magic touch Bar and 2.7 Teraflop GPU last year......It’s a lotta money.....and Powerful.........yet, Apple decides to not update it in 2023......Especially with Covid........it’s just not cool.....

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2023Actually, the price for the 8GB configuration is very good.... moreEven worse than you think. 32GB DDR4 is $50 and 32GB DDR5 is $80. A 2TB SSD can go for under $100 these days.

Apple wants $1400 for $180 of upgrades.

Anonymous, 07 Jun 2023A decent configuration costs 1750€. So still very expensive... moreYes the storage upgrade prices are the biggest problem of the Air. It only makes sense in the base configuration for light users, or now with the price drop with maybe 1 upgrade to RAM or storage. Otherwise, it’s too close to a 14 inch Pro, which has the 512/16GB as base and additionally a brighter display, more performance, more ports and so on.

Anonymous, 06 Jun 2023Especially for a base 8 GB of RAM.Actually, the price for the 8GB configuration is very good. However, the upgrade options for 16/24GB RAM and 512/1024/2048GB SSD are ridiculously expensive.
Going for 24GB RAM and 2048GB you must pay additional $1200, it's like buying second MacBook Air 15 ! And what's the retail price for 32GB RAM and 2TB SSD on the PC market - $200 - $300?

By this logic, in 5 years the prices will drop 100 bucks max.

What's the point advertising the number of GPU cores if they can't be used for gaming, as well?

And you want to price the same -,-..

On top of that you say expensive.. When say expensive, you have to compare to another device of similar build and quality. Which is NONE.

The price is for the 8gb ram and 256 gb ssd version. Upgrading it costs riducilious amounts of money. It costs 460 euros or 400 dollars to upgrade to 16 gb ram and 512gb storage. So it becomes 1760 euros in EU and 1500 dollars in US.
Evet the iphones have 6 gb ram. I was considering getting macbook air but 256 gb ssd and 8 gb ram is laughable in 2023. Besides, apple is intentionally only supports 1 monitor. They don't allow more than one monitor. Air is more than capable device but apple is trying really hard to reserve this feature to only the "pro" lineup

The GPU is 7 cores on the base model M1 and 8 cores optional.
The GPU is 8 cores on the base model M2 13“ and 10 cores optional.
The GPU is 10 cores on all M2 15“ models.

                                  The M2 15“ has 6 speakers (compared to 4 on the M2 13“).
