24 June 2023
The company has already confirmed some key upgrades for its second smartphone and we have some unofficial info too (though the accuracy of that is up in the air).

Or a OP10T for $400? OP11 is cheaper than all those devices and has better specs in most areas and at worse it matches specs.

Carl Pei says "very few people buy small phones" and this is probably the most true statement I've seen in a while. Not a single one of my friends and co-workers say they want a phone with a display smaller than 6.4 inches. Only a small handful of people want a small phone. From a business standpoint, it makes no sense to make a product to cater to the few especially when Nothing is still a small company.

            Currently:
The Xiaomi 12T Pro is priced at $634.00
and The S22 is priced at about the same price

The reason why I didn't recommend the Z flip 4 is because of the price and durability.

Headlines will be "Cheaper than previously reported" instead of "Significantly more expensive than Phone (1)".

Sanciny, 25 Jun 2023"Very few people buy small phones" ....Wtf? If we... morePhones under 6.7 screen size sell far less dude! Most people these days whether a budget, mid range or flagship have a 6.7 screen size phone.

Plus it costs just as much or more developing and manufacturing a smaller size equivalent phone than the default 6.7 screen size phones.

justasmile, 25 Jun 2023If you're going to pay double the price for just a chi... moreI think the allegated French Euro prices are fake like the renders! Onleaks based the renders on a older prototype Nothing Phone 2 but bizarrely said his renders are 100% accurate. The screenshots shown by Carl Pei etc of the UI shows the selfie camera isn't in the corner like the Onleaks renders.

Obviously going to cost more than the Nothing Phone 1 as a better chipset albeit not the latest one, plus a more premium design and better build quality. But won't be as expensive as say a OnePlus 11 as no latest UFS 4.0 storage or DDR5X ram. Plus also no Telephoto/Periscope 3rd camera.

"Very few people buy small phones" ....Wtf? If we talk about 5" ten okay. But something about 6.1" is still considered as compact phone and significantly smaller than 6.7. And yet still many people buy iPhone 14, 14 pro, S22, S23...so I really dont get Carl's arguement.

justasmile, 25 Jun 2023The cropping of 50MP can already serve as the 'telepho... moreNowhere near as good as a proper Telephoto or better still Periscope that can do at least 5x zoom.

Even most midrange phones in the next year or so will be able to do true 5x zoom.

                      It's a big mistake if Nothing Phone 2 doesn't have a 3rd rear Telephoto/Periscope camera with at least a 5x zoom.

If they put a 10x Periscope zoom on the Nothing Phone 2 it would sell like hot cakes!

If you're going to pay double the price for just a chip upgrade, then theres no point buying this.

notafanboy, 24 Jun 2023No telephoto no buy. Also tone down the "disco lights&... moreThe cropping of 50MP can already serve as the 'telephoto lens'

RicL, 25 Jun 2023I really hope the price is lower than what leaks are saying... moreIt's not a midrange smartphone as the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is still way ahead of the midrange processor's! Plus Carl Pei says the design and build quality of the Nothing Phone 2 will be as good or better than the top flagship smartphones currently available.

So Nothing Phone 2 is inbetween a upper midrange and a flagship smartphone. Therefore the price theoretically should be more than the Nothing Phone 1 but cheaper than the likes of second tier flagships like OnePlus 11 etc.

Personally I think it's a big mistake without a 3rd telephoto/periscope 5x zoom rear camera. As that will be the minimum for the top phones and even midrange phones within the next year or so. Good overall camera quality is very important for buyers these days...

Geekhead, 25 Jun 2023Carl needs to price this devise with good thought otherwise... moreCarl Pei has repeatedly said Nothing smartphones going forward will be premium design and build quality. Ie obviously more expensive than midrange smartphones like the first Nothing phone.

He also said they're philosophy isn't about having the highest spec's. So on that statement the price range of the Nothing Phone 2 should be inbetween midrange and flagship smartphones.

Nothing Phone 2 isn't going to have the latest and faster UFS 4.0 storage and DDR5X ram unless Nothing get Qualcomm to modify the older Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 SoC. Also unfortunately looks like only 2 rear cameras, no telephoto/periscope 5x zoom.

French European price leaks are surely fake as those prices without a 3rd rear camera without at least a 3x telephoto zoom would be a big mistake for Nothing. Now if it actually did had a good 5x or 6x telephoto zoom rear camera then maybe they could charge €700/£700 for the 512GB storage option.

I really hope the price is lower than what leaks are saying. If a phone only has 2 rear cameras and a previous gen chip set, it's a mid-range device and should be priced as such. I am really intrigued by the Nothing phone and would consider buying the 2 if it is priced right and has better cameras.

"Carriers are the gatekeepers to the US markets" - I hear this all the time but wonder how true it is. Sony is notorious for poor carrier support. When I check the MBN files in my Xperia 1 III, there's a section where Sony has disabled 5G compatibility for North American T-Mobile.

Geekhead, 25 Jun 2023Carl needs to price this devise with good thought otherwise... moreHe is overconfident at this point of time.
He is trying to be another Steve Jobs and wants Nothing to be another Apple iPhone.
And above all he is using the same strategy like he did for OnePlus.

There is nothing wrong with them using an older flagship processor (provided they actually support the processor with OS updates for years).
This could be a "game changer" in the market if it's priced very competitively.
