Fairphone 5 images leaks, show slimmer bezels and a transparent colorway

20 June 2023
There are no specs to go with the images, but between the bezels and the punch hole the improvements on the front are apparent (less so on the back).

You have over 5 years of software support and usb headphones were invented a long time ago?
"Stronger sock" what is that even mean? And what has that to do with OS optimisation? Do you even understand hardware or you think: haeHae 8 it sTronger, hae hae?

Anonymous, 21 Jun 2023Saying e-waste doesn't matter is kind of despicable I ... moreYeah, because those refurbished phones were not made on this planet, they were thoughtfully build on another planet with fair wages, metals bought on fair prices from conflict free zones, with no child labor and superior working conditions. Also they all allow you to install whatever OS suits you and swap the battery as you please and when you need it. They are also still supported after those 3 years you're talking about...a lot. And of course if you brake the screen, you can easily change it, no need for unpaid technicians in a obscure hole in china, those refurbished things are really good. I mean, c r a z y... SD 8 compared to SD 745 is a night and day difference, worthy of the refurbishing, lack of support, garbage behaviour toward everything ethic and trash it when broken. You're right, how come no inteligent person came up with such "great" ideas.

To come here and expose that much ignorance and be proud of it, is something else...but not unknow in this forums. But i give you that much.

You actually owe the devices, and not vive-versa. Upgrade parts, (mostly the camera module) and fast swap battery is also nothing to neglect. Also supporting a fair Manufacturing, marketing and wage and supporting the sustainably is VERY important. I know for ignorants, is a device with cpu that needs to be cheaper and please 300 gb RAM and 2 SD 8gen2 CPUs for 3 Euros... Thank god not everybody is one tough, at least there is a small balance...

And nope, no one is forcing you to buy bluetooth headphones. There are a tone of USBC cable headphones on the market, and jack to usb c dongles that go under 10 dollar, so get a clue and stop spreading ignorance for ghf sake.

Can't call yourself "environmentally conscious" and not have a headphone jack on your phone. All you're doing is making people buy wireless earphones with batteries that will go bad over time. Even if you buy the fairbuds, you'll still have to replace the batteries eventually.

The fair phone fills the niche market where people do break their phones frequently and wants to change parts easily. Thats is not what im interested in.

However, I think he does have a point in some regards, Fairphones are extremely expensive for what is a fairly crap phone, when you compare to other phones of similar price.
There is a balance to be struck where eventually, the cost of repairing something, and the sacrifices to design and manufacturing you have to make to make it repairable in the first place become more expensive than the cost of recycling old products and creating new.
IMO the best way to get the best bang for your buck without contributing to e-waste is to buy refurbished phones, since the value of high and mid-range phones drops off so sharply over 1-3 years but flagships from 1-3 years ago are still fantastic phones and absolutely annihilate the fairphone 4 in a side-by-side comparison.
Buying a new fairphone adds more e-waste than buying a refurb phone.
If spending all that money on a fairphone makes you feel like a better person though, then sure, go ahead and buy it.

The fact thay Fairphone removed the headphone jack instantly made me think this "right to repair" movement is all a falace that won't help the consumer anyways.

Side Fingerprint reader, microSD, replaceable battery, 4+years security updates, lots of replaceable components, decent camera system, mid range processor. Thats a good deal for a multi year phone.
