Fairphone 5 images leaks, show slimmer bezels and a transparent colorway

20 June 2023
There are no specs to go with the images, but between the bezels and the punch hole the improvements on the front are apparent (less so on the back).

Spanky, 20 Jun 2023I don’t like/want user replaceable batteries again. 😡 It ju... moreI think you might be a nowday younger kid and missed out the old days when batteries back covers everything was swappable and phones lasted longer than nowadays for the higher prices in EU due to taxes etc, and they just keep removing features, or adding a lot of useless apps, or duplicating so a 512gb device has almost 100GB used without downloading anything or logging in to google to download something. iPhone didn't even existed when Nokia, SonyEricsson and Motorola were top 3 Worldwide. Replacable batteries, easier acces to sim card, sd/card and non had IP rating neither and we used them outside in heavy rain and didn't had any issue with them.

GAMIR3DH, 20 Jun 2023Welcome to 2019 Fairphone 😆Well, at least they're not traveling back to the 1940s and probably back to the 1880s after.

Spanky, 20 Jun 2023I don’t like/want user replaceable batteries again. 😡 It ju... moreNow that we heard from a shill we know that what the people want is opposite.
Last phone i had with an easily removable battery was a galaxy s3 and the scariest part when dropping it wasn't losing the battery or back cover, but weather or not the screen will break. If the back cover would be something like on a galaxy note 3/4 then it would really feel like a quality product. Plus you can always easily change out the back cover for something else. Would be great if you could 3D print(fdm) one, but i'm guessing the latches would be too small (could be wrong though).
Heck it would be a great thing to reduce phone thickness if a back cover could be made into a case for the phone. You'd then have phone with an armor case that's probably around 8-9mm thick instead of the current 10-11.
Also who tf uses wireless charging in Europe? Get a magsafe plug and use it on your cables. Heck you can even use usb OTG. Can't do that without any connectors.

Fairphone 4 user here. Headphone jack is not a miss (though I did buy some IEMs recently, so I got a USB-C adapter at the same time). Never used wireless charging either (too inefficient).

That said, probably won't be buying the Fairphone 5 as the 4 should last me for 5+ years.

This site has a phone search funktion, please use it and choose "removable battery".
Then go all the way back to the beginning and look at the smartphones all the way till today. All your "points" are invalid.

As for third party bull...you can do that with for example a radio in your car too- should we lock the doors of the car so as to avoid it? You buy the car but cant get in so you dont blow it up on acident? Sounds stupid doesnt it? Apply this logic everywhere.

Use then Snapdagon 6 Gen 1

GAMIR3DH, 20 Jun 2023Welcome to 2019 Fairphone 😆At least they are doing something positive for the planet, unlike a lot of manufacturers that are slowly moving towards a solid sealed block, where nothing can be repaired, removed or replaced...

                  Welcome to 2019 Fairphone 😆

No jack? They didnt learn anything from the backlash the last time?
Like many I was looking forward to it
But (like Jerry said) jack, FM radio, SD slot should be in every phone, especially if you are gonna market yourself as eco friendly. The prices already push people away from buying it and now you dont listen to the customers you have? This world is run by idiots i tell you, no logic anywhere to be found

I can see the little notch to remove the back cover, like on phones 10 years ago. Lovely

I was looking forward to the 5, but the lack of a headphone jack is extremely disappointing, especially considering wireless earphones are pretty much e-waste after a few years. You can’t really be eco friendly if your brand supports decisions like this…

For a phone that wants to be "eco-friendly", it's pretty dumb to not include a 3.5mm jack. All TWS earbuds are sort of e-waste. They're expensive, their batteries degrade over time, audio quality will never be as good as a wired connection.

I really want to get one of these if they sold in north America. The price markups are insane by resellers considering this is a midrange device

This is nice I am liking it already. FF4 was a hot for the company hope the 5 will do even better.

I don’t like/want user replaceable batteries again. 😡 It just makes the phone break apart into pieces when you drop it. It’s also harder to keep the phones slim. Then you have to consider the position of the wireless charging coils (which will become more and more common, even in mid-range phones). A non-replaceable battery also prevents users from using all sorts of poor quality, 3rd party batteries which explode all over the place.

The EU is insane with this so-called „environment friendlines“ and hopefully they will be stopped. The planet is doomed anyway, so we might as well enjoy the benefits of a convenient lifestyle.
