I love GSMArena, but I am against the petition.
High end compact phone won't sell well like the big ones.

I don't really understand why only blackberry makes qwerty phones? This is madness the way industry has gone. Phones being slim who cares if the phones are double in thickness as long as they can last 2 day of heavy usage?

This big screen and touch is so stupid that is a joke. THere is no alternative to this madness and if that was this campaigning I would sign but I was disappointed you came up with this idea which is not really radical and needed.

There are plenty of good small phones. Galaxy S3 mini, Galaxy s4 mini is coming, iphone 5, lumia 720, no need for a petition in my opinion

I still prefer larger screen and resolution, and i think thats the way to go. I can't do much on my smartphone if i restrict the size to my previous 3" phone sizes.

The market is a very tough place and it decides what will sell. Even companies go by the market. Your survey may be in good earnst but ultimately market will find the level required. I would prefer a bigger screen. People get used to using a particular size and then they can take more, I mean they can handle a bigger divice. The bigger phone has its advantages. All I can say is the demand is huge and there are takers for all sizes.

I'm not sure if it's such good idea. If companies focus onto several high end devices in one year, their improvements and innovations will inevitably have to be lower due to lack of time. They can only do their best if they focus onto their main flagships as high-end and if they choose smaller devices, the majority would be not satisfied and the people who desire for the most powerful usually desire for a large screen, plus if you use the same technology, you cannot possibly make a smaller device as powerful as a bigger.

Just because smaller devices aren't the most powerful, doesn't mean they're weak, current smaller devices are still VERY powerful.

                  My thoughts.

Thought I sign the petition on day one, I can understand that the segment we see unpopulated may be so for a reason. With only Apple and Samsung making significant profits from selling device, why would the also ran get into building more expensive devices that most of the mainstream press would judge to pricey for their screen size. The marketing of the Razr i like mobile is difficult. The manufacturers might need to co-brand their devices with sport/fashion/design/financial brands. LG did not get that much success with Prada lately but is familiar with this kind of effort.

The wow factor is the reason big screen are news at the moment, there are plenty of small screen smartphones about...gsmarena seach lists 1000 with screens smaller than 2.6 in, most of them blackberry..

Signing this petition is a stupid idea. Let the manufacturer manufacture whatever size they want in a smartphone. Everyone has their own size preference. Not everybody wants a 4.2in screen phone you know. I myself for example never like a phone which is less than 5in screen since DELL STREAK. What is there to enjoy in small screen phone? Zooming!!! Hah zooming is not my cup of coffee.

I own a Sony Xperia Ray, that tells my whole story of how much I wanted to express my thoughts in this regard. Xperia Ray was one of the smaller devices in the Sony's 2011 lineup but with the same hardware as the then flagship of Sony, i.e. Xperia Arc, I thought there would be some kind of successor to the device like a Ray 2 or something but when Sony launched Xperia Z with 5 inch screen, I lost hopes of Sony making any smaller devices.

It's obvious that the reason why the petition is at a standstill at around 9K is because of people who wants a small Android "highend smartphone" are a minority. Big OEM's are not going to listen to a minority. They are going to direct you towards their smaller mid-range phones.

Their old qwerty phone were bulky with small screens and tiny keys, while other brands were able to fit large screen on compact qwerty phones with good comfortable keys.

I find the petition is very unconvincing to the OEMs

                                    - For smaller phones with around 4" screen, 720p is simply over kill and only add more burden to battery life and manufacturing cost. Even the super sharp iPhone 5 doesn't have 720p screen.

                                    - If you don't have a HD screen to drive, I don't see the point for such a phone to ever need latest quad, octa-core. The only outcome is miserable battery life and unreasonable price of the handset.

                                    - Manufacture cost is probably the same if not higher for trying to put a same hardware into a much smaller body. For example, higher density, more expensive battery to offset for smaller size; higher dpi screen (of a same resolution); smaller camera sensor and lens of a same capability...

                                    - Now you are trying to build smaller phones at higher cost to the flagships and selling them to a much smaller crowd. To this point, how you're gonna priced this handset? Same or higher than the flagship? Won't sell. Significantly lower than the flagship? Won't cover the high cost.

                                    - There were already a few phones that went to that route, small size with sharp screen and capable hardware (at the time) and none of them were big a success, namely Sony Ericsson Xperia Ray, Xperia P, Xperia SX, Motorola RAZR i...
