Asus Zenfone 10 teardown video shows no repairability improvements

10 July 2023
This year Asus focused on upgrades like wireless charging and improved optical image stabilization, not so much on making the phone easier to take apart.

It also required a complete teardown to change the screen, and it was a fragile screen. If you repaired one you probably remember the little razor sharp oval slot through which you had to pass the ribbon cable for the screen and digitizer. One tiny nick, and that was it. Boy, I'm glad I don't do that anymore.
The Lumia 1020 was fairly easy to repair, though. Probably the easiest for a screen replacement.

Meh, I've seen better, I've seen a lot worse. It's not a Fairphone or Nokia G-series, but it's also not an iPhone 14 Pro Max either. People may dunk on the plastic back, but I really do think it makes repairing the thing easier, or at the very least far safer (it's very easy to break the rear glass trying to remove it if you're inexperienced) so I do think it's not as bad as it could have been.

Anonymous, 10 Jul 2023There's nothing wrong with people who don't work ... moreGood luck finding parts for a Unihertz though- their complete lack of any software support shows they just don't care.

You can't repair anything without the appropriate parts, so the score for the Jelly 2E might as well be 0.

Nothing really different on zenfone 2 its like that you need to remove a lot of components first before replacing a screen.

Minu, 11 Jul 2023And the fact that Unihertz uses ringtones stolen from Vivo ... moreI really like 'stolen tech' because it gives us premium quality at affordable prices. Xiaomi steals a lot from Vivo, Apple and Samsung.😄😄 That's why i like Xiaomi, affordable quality that rivals the masters of the game. I'm considering the ZenFone 10 for my daughter otherwise my 14year old son enjoys the IR Blaster, headphone jack and NFC in his Xiaomi phone.

UniHertz is just taking advantage of people looking for unique form factors.

Anonymous, 10 Jul 2023There's nothing wrong with people who don't work ... moreI mean to be fair with the Zenfone 9/10 there is considerably more "hardware" inside it compared to the Jelly 2E which requires more complexity to store them.

There's nothing wrong with people who don't work for ifixit wanting to review a phone's repairability. This sort of mentality that only some people can do X or Y doesn't help anyone, especially when people are advocating for something as important as repairability.

Also, the phone being "small" is no excuse for a bad score. Look at tiny phones like the Unihertz Jelly 2E, which he also tested: It scored 5.5/10 (still not great but one point higher than the Zenfone 9/10) and it has a 3 inch screen and even a headphone jack AND sd card slot too.

I dont know who is ifixit or even this who the news is about and all are as valid as any.

Also ifixit probably cant or dont want to get his hands on to Asus phones or what ever as not all youtubers do all brands in the market as there are too many of them.

There are millions of people all over the world who do fixing technology but only few who do the videos of products to so how how to and so on

They want to be iFixit so bad..🫢

What do you expect from a small flagship?

Who even is this guy? People associate repairability with IFixit, not some random youtuber.
