Why do you think the rest of the Chinese brands, Xiaomi and the BBK were not banned by the US? Because they are nothing, hardly innovative. The innovations come from the component makers, like Qualcomm, Sony, Samsung, etc. The likes of Xiaomi and the BBK are simply buying over the shelf components, put them together, add some marketing through cheap tricks (ie those Leica/Hasselblad filters), and call it a day. Hardly innovative. Look at their margins. They don’t make that much to be actually innovating anything.

Globally Samsung is the leading smartphone brand in terms of shipments for the 2nd quarter 2023 with 53 million shipments and a 21% market share. Apple came in second with 43 million shipments and a 17% market share while Xiaomi rounded out the top three with 33.2 million shipments and a 13% market share.

Kingchin33, 29 Jul 2023Cost of living even in developed countries means less sales... moreThe Chinese brands and Apple are on different customer segment, with very tiny overlap. People buy Chinese phones because they have to (affordability). People buy iPhones because they want to. That’s the difference. The only Chinese brand that managed to be at Apple’s brand level was Huawei, but we knew that didn’t last long.
Even rich Chinese people only want to buy either Apple or Huawei. They don’t want Xiaomi or those BBK brands.

You do realise this article is only about current smartphone sales in the USA, it doesn't include smartphone sales in China, EU, India etc 😅

Watch any reviews on the Pixel Fold from creators living in the USA, and it's not hard to see why the much prefer it over Samsung's Z Fold 4/5.

Well done Apple! This year for the first time ever Apple have real chance to sell most phones worlwide. After two quarters the difference is only 15 million between Apple and Samsung and Apple can sell even 20 million more phones Q4 than Samsung, so it all comes how Samsung Q3 goes, but currently things doesn't look good for Samsung sales. It will be very close with these two this year. It just shows how more and more want iPhone.

Though the consumers who do have the money will still buy the latest overpriced gucci bags, iPhones etc. Then post on social media to look cool.
Could be worse thankfully the Chinese smartphone brands are innovating and not letting Apple and Samsung have a complete monopoly!

The article is US SMARTPHONE SHIPMENTS FALLING BY 24% COMPARED TO Q2 2022
Non sequitur not relevant nonsense.
I noticed you posted the same unrelated junk on Global shipment article wher there is only a 1% difference Apple to Samsung ( Samsung shipped more smartphones than Apple Globally)
Apple dominates US market.

Daemon Targaryen, 29 Jul 2023This is why the mobile industry has been trash the last 5 y... moreThe EU making removeable batteries compulsory on all phones sold in the EU in 2027 isn't going to stop people buying iPhones lol. As every new phone sold in the EU in 2027 from all brands will have a removeable battery!
I've tried pal's iPhones several times before and just don't like ios and the way the flat jadged frame feels in the hand. Plus too many hardware and software features missing for myself personally.
But the average person on the street (the ones who can actually afford it) will still keep buying iPhones as the brand is huge. Even though there are many better performing phones from other companies available.

ashrobb, 28 Jul 2023There's also no real reason to upgrade when innovation... more"There's also no real reason to upgrade when innovation has stagnated a bit, and we even have downgrades in some segments."
- Apple and Samsung yes don't innovate much as their the market leaders and people will simply buy their phones. But the Chinese smartphone manufacturers are innovating always introducing new stuff (even if it was originally developed by someone else) every year on smartphones. Xiaomi 1 inch camera sensor, Huawei 10 step variable aperture, Honor RF chip that improves 4G/5G signal strength in poor coverage areas & standalone WiFi and Bluetooth chips for more stable lower latency connections, Upcoming OnePlus Ace 2 with the most advanced cooling system ever in a smartphone.
"Hopefully in the near future the industry will slow down and release new products every two years. No need to upgrade yearly."
- Never going to happen buddy, that's not how smartphone businesses work! Shareholders would never let them only release a smartphone every 2 years.
" Healthier for the planet as well."
- It would be. EU are bringing laws in the near future that all phones sold in the EU need to be made with mostly recycled materials.

People buy the latest iPhones not because of the features/performance, but because of status symbol. Apple as a brand is at that level. No Android brands are at that level. But even Apple is feeling the crunch, thus they plan to increase prices and do more services for revenue stream."
Totally agreed,
I just wonder, why everytime I said iPhone is a status symbol,
The user is just treating it as "CHEAP" way to get status symbol without buying useless $10.000 bag, my comment always got deleted by GSMARena.
