vivo has co-developed a custom image sensor with Sony for the vivo X100 series

31 July 2023
And a custom lens with Zeiss, plus there's the V3 ISP on the way too.

Anonymous, 01 Aug 2023I do not think vivo wants x100 to perform this close to pro... moreThe x90 in practice already performs close to the x90 pro with the VCS sensor. It is the regular model that is by far the biggest seller and thus most important model in the series and so far Vivo doesn't seem to deliberately under optimise their non pro models like some other Chinese brands. Last year the regular x90 got the VCS tech. I think there's a good chance the regular x100 will get the Lytia sensor. Major leakers have previously claimed it will have a new sensor around 1/1.43 inch so it would match. The leakers have also been claiming that the standard model would be a match the pro model of other brands camera wise. The standard model will likely have weaker ultrawide and zoom sensors which is another way they can create a gap to the pro models. Anyway, time will tell

This is more of a presentation of the past achievement and the future direction that Vivo is trying to move towards, and not necessarily the confirmation that V100 will have a two-layer diode sensor. It even mentions some crazy ML stuff like generative background and age/hairstyle/facial expression manipulation, which is practically impossible to execute locally in real-time on a phone right now.

Aierlan, 31 Jul 2023The standard Vivo x100 will probably have this as the main sensorI do not think vivo wants x100 to perform this close to pro/pro+ ..
1/1.43" exmor T is equivalent to 1/1.09" Exmor RS.

Sony Semicon thinks 1/2" T can match 1/1.56" RS.
You would have something like 586 with power of 890.

This will help to same inner space on phones.

              This is for another camera.
903 is for iphone 16 pro max.
No info if 907 is public portifolio or xperia's..

Asking for copy of Imx888( LYT800) will save vivo money compared to asking for new exclusive.

Anonymous, 31 Jul 2023Great stuff. if they fix the huge idle battery drain I'... moreagree, I got the x90 pro+ and played a lot with s23 ultra and iphone 14.
Vivo is killing it but the idle battery drain ruins the phone giving it a good but not great battery life.
                Give me x100 pro+ with a 5000mAh and i'm sold.
Is the best replacement I could got for huawei, can't stand samsung and their recycles overpriced phones lately after being with them for 10 years

Why only 1/1.43”, why not larger like the Sony IMX903 at 1/1.14” sensor with 48MP, or the IMX907 at 1/1.12” but with 50MP, both with 1.4µm pixels. Those should theoretically have better low light and dynamic range.

At some point, only samsung is going to be using only plastic elements for lenses.
While other are slowly adopting hybrid (1G6P). Even apple plans to use.

Pathetic samsung only cares about how many pixels can be "binned".
                            4 to 1, 9 to 1, 16 to 1 and later 25 to 1 and 36 to 1.

"..vivo tapped its partner Zeiss to create the Vario-Apo-Sonner telephoto lens for the X100 series. This will have a floating lens design, which will allow it to focus at closer distances."

Finally, more phones to use the telephoto as the macro as well! Love to see that.

"LYT800 sensor is expected to have a low-light performance similar to 1” sensors"
I doubt that. Allegedly (at least a source from wikipedia), modern camera sensors already have a fill factor of nearly 100 % due to microlenses. This means that you can't magically capture more light. I assume that this new sensor technology is related to the full well capacity (Sony's website states "2-layer transistor pixel structure enabling excellent saturation signal level")
and this means that it will be able to capture more light without blowing out highlights only(!) when the exposure time is longer! So the advantage is only present in good light conditions (or shadow areas of good light conditions) because in low light conditions one often can't increase the exposure time due to blur.
