Anonymous, 09 Aug 2023Proper question should be: "Why not paying patent f... moreThere are hundreds, if not thousands, of patents related to foldable phones/displays.

Xiaomi, Huawei, Motorola, Samsung, Apple and others hold plenty of patents - all of them.

Motorola's teardrop solution has been better than Samsung's, making the phone close flat without a gap since the first iteration of the new RAZR and Sammy finally did the same with their 5th Z fold, although the RAZR 40 Ultra still has the better design - even though they are very similar.

Samsung should try and develop a new logo for their Z fold lineup. The Z Fold 5 looks like a OEM product you can re-brand to whatever you like on the back. Get rid of their Samsung-logo on the hinge.

Anonymous, 10 Aug 2023Not missing out. Xiaomi's belong in the trash anyways.... moreWhy on earth would you say that? With each new phone release, quality improves by leaps and bounds. Samsung (amongst others) made some truly terribly built phones as well, and still have issues if one has to be objective. I think that Chinese phones in general have some of the best Hardware builds out there, one only has to look at the latest Huawei offerings to know this. Oppo has also built solid phones, put together with premium materials normally only available to flagship products.

I for one am all for the likes of Samsung and Apple facing competition, as it keeps everyone on their toes to give us, the people who spend our money on their products, the best quality, constant innovation, and value for money spent.

I actually think that this phone may be a proper beast of a phone, with the looks to match. Looking at the body thickness in relation to the USB-C port, this phone looks über-thin and classy. If the internals and battery life match what is known so far, I'd gladly buy one if and when it reaches the international market.

I feel that way too much emphasis has been placed on the so-called spying game the Chinese are supposedly playing, when the so-called squeaky-clean Western OS and Hardware developers Are doing exactly the same, and in some cases, more blatantly so. We are losing out on experiencing some amazing tech and build quality through paranoia.

LG bought all flex oled tech from sony in 2012. In 2010 sony showcased oled that can stretch, exactly like that LG tv that can "hide" ..
Samsung was not even dreaming about working with this.

Even if any royalties had to be paid , then would be the screen supplier, not who buys the screen.

"Why not paying patent fees to Samsung, so it could release globally?"

Samsung monopolize the waterdrop hinge patent, and foldable display since 2016.

I guess it just isn't profitable for them to market and sell it internationally. Otherwise they would have.

We're stuck with the ZFold and Pixel... moreGuess they do not want to be subject to 'security' issues and forced to use google apps spyware all of which auto checked permissions for your convenience (or where you can share snippets to help build a better app) lol

                                  Why not global ?
We're stuck with the ZFold and Pixel Fold 😣

Looks way too much like a vivo X Fold series phone.

If it's only for China, how the hell did Xiaomi make that pic in English?
