It's lighter, tougher and thinner.

My Mi Mix 3, which I still have as my secondary device, have zero scratches and marks on the back part made of ceramic, however the thin strip of aluminium is scratched from when I used back cover for a while.

You see, if fine sand or similar debris gets in between the case and the phone it will keep scratching whenever force is applied, so when you are handling it and walking with it in your pocket.

Having noticed this with a previous all aluminium phone as well, I have stopped using back covers. I was very surprised to see all the marks on the back when taking off the cover.

For the front I use tempered glass screen protectors when the phone is quite new, but after a while i remove it.

Next time I get a new phone, maybe for the first period of use, in addition to tempered glass on the front, I will use a vinyl on the back. As the should not allow for dust and debris to enter like it can with a case and cause scratches.

The vegan/vegetarian and mislead environmentalist movements always cries out for us to stop using real leather. The problem is that for anything that is exposed to wear and tear, leather is superior in durability and will give a significantly better life span for the products and it is much better to dispose of at end of lifespan.

PU leather is often used in mobile cases and purses etc. Even furniture of extra low quality.

Also $500 handbags from Micheal Kors and similar over priced brands are made of PU leather. They even make trenchcoats of the stuff and sells it for nearly $400. Now that is hilarious.

My flagship main device has a faux leather case on it, but the phone itself also has a faux leather back and I absolutely prefer this over glass, it feels better and it's definitely more durable.

And by "others" there seems to be a hard core of people who either carry their phones 24/7 and / or those with flagship phones (be it iPhones or Android clearly not using a phonecase) screen protectors applied unknown?

Premium phones do feel nice au naturel, however(mine) every handset from unboxing to phonecase and then screen protector.

I suspect that especially handset carried around & NOT in a phonecase will succumb to scratching sooner rather than later. Anything that delays that is welcome

The undiagnosed problem that this won't address is THE RAISED camera island.

        Premier phones cameras are vulnerable.
My phonecatses have a raised lip that protects the camera.

Those who use a phone case have to accept the feel of TPU faux leather and the like, a scuffed flagship phone no matter the material is still scuffed

          I like it.

Anonymous, 14 Aug 2023Another fancy name for plastic. Not really. It isn't plastic, but is also isn't glass (thankfully) nor a metal.

I haven seen ceramic fiber in this context, but design wise it looks very similar to carbon fiber and that brings nostalgia to my old Motorola RAZR XT910, as well as several other Moto RAZR phones (M, D1, HD [MAXX], V etc.) from that time.

Smartphone manufacturers really did paint themselves into a corner with nonsense marketing of glass and aluminium etc. as "premium" and the much more durable plastic as "budget".

                        Another fancy name for plastic.

I care more about that it will come with 0.6, 1x, 3x, 5x lens.
Resolution aside, since 1.gen of vivo fold and 1. two gen of hiawei folds, its another one to have 4 cameras.
Wish someone would improve design tho, good l7ck with sensor size and resolution, to compete as a real flagship.

That's a smart move, considering how heavy foldables usually are and how tough, but lightweight carbon fibre is.

And yet, all of these exotic materials are inferior to plastic which could be used to make durable devices. What a waste of research...

I wish all phones had this as their back material rather than the glass, plastic or vegan leather (*cough* *cough* plastic 2.0) that they seem to really want to use. This material looks better while also being lighter, tougher and thinner, so why not use it?

Xiaomi always try to come with something interesting.

                                  And I appreciate that.
