Analyst: the Apple Watch X will be the biggest upgrade yet with new body, straps and sensors

14 August 2023
This is in contrast with the Series 9, which is expected to be the smallest upgrade.

Faceid in the notch of this watch ? just like on the latest MacBooks ?

Will be a empty notch, evolving backwards just like Apple.

DaFink, 15 Aug 2023Well maybe they end up doing so, for those who wish to....e... moreApple design Apple Watch and its watch OS each for the event and fashion.

That's why their watch straps are interchangeable since series1. They want you to buy multiple watches. iPhone support automatic switching.. so you just put the watch and strap for the event and day.

SE.. for your family / sleeping ?
        Aluminium Series.. everyday use?
Stainless steel series.. date? event? Showoff?
        Ultra series.. hiking? durable?

Battery life is covered by their ultra series. Besides, those who wants Fitbit or wearOS they can pair with iPhone. But Android cannot pair Apple Watch. So win win for them.. if customer is into any wearables.

But I stick to my point, the Apple Watch is already way too feature packed, the last thing it needs is any additional features. What Apple would be wise to do would be to point their considerable R&D budget towards developing a version that has battery life suitable for intended purpose.

Remember, Apple quotes 'up to 18 hours' battery life for all Watches models, Ultra excluded as that does get about 2-3 days, but it's about the size of a wedding ring box and costs the better part of a grand. And those batteries (like any other) will degrade, so that 18 hours is best case scenario and will get worse.

So unless you want to go with Watch OS's ridiculous 'battery saver mode' that basically turns off all the features you'd want to wear such a device for in the first place, then you'd better get used to the fact that a swanky Apple watch, even brand new is only going to make it as far as episode 18 of a season of 24, at best.

Battery life is the only new feature Apple need to add to the Watch series.

But you are right, other than FaceTime for people to see your face, camera seems not very useful. (And you are wondering why not AI model like the vision pro.. its because the AI needs a lot of processing power).

But both camera and the faceID modules are required for Memoji... That's something they may want to add.. for that hype factor.. and more chills.. haha

All of which end up being 99.9% similar to their predecessors anyway 🤷‍♂️

So your advice would be considered sound, if it weren't simply aimed at Apple as a brand. Or are you suggesting people keep any Apple products they have bought until they literally decompose whilst updating any other tech they have at every opportunity??

Whenever Apple wants to take your money, they'll say best yet then 6 months later they'll say Best yet, then better than the best, then biggest yet, always something yet with 9.99 price besides it to lure you into their scam. Once old one works don't buy new. Apple offers little t9 no upgrades. Since iPhone 11 I'm yet to see real upgrades

That though is something you put on your head and that covers your eyes, making camera's something of a necessity, so in that case sure. I'm struggling mind to find a logical reason a watch would require a camera, let alone a FaceID set up 🤷‍♂️

Besides, given the Apple Watches already dismal battery life, I don't think an increase in power hungry hardware components is a wise idea in the first place.

X on the iPhone was the introduction to faceid.

Maybe the same for the watch..? Or the first embedded faceid.

I stopped wearing a smartwatch long time ago and I got into classic watches witch are more to my liking. Nowadays smartwatches are totally crap and cost way to much so I prefer my Japanese watches like Seiko 5, Grand Seiko, Orient, Kuoe, Kikuchi Nakagawa.

What about the Ultra 2? Is X replacing it?

Don't care 🤷🏻‍♂️ I don't use any smartwatch. My watch basically fitness band and Casio Mudman series watch with atomic time keeping and 200M water, dust, mud, impact resistant and solar power+battery that last for years without needing to constantly changing 🙄

For medical grade accurate results of B.P, you need a device with cuff. Otherwise it's just a toy which gives average results which you cannot trust.
