Compression is the number one enemy for quality. Nobody cares about saving a little bit space as nowadays phones have huge space starting from 128GB. But most people care about quality. My phone has 256GB of space and I have a 256GB flash drive for backup. So perfectly enough.

The funny this is, I use to zip my photos to send the full quality once I took a nice photo. I still feel this HD option isn't enough. Some cameras take very large and high resolution photos, so this option is a good start, but still not enough

Send them as documents its still the best way for zero compression. Its a easier method on Android than on Iphones which is a step or 2 extra

rizki1, 18 Aug 2023Like our friends, if we take pictures with a lot of people/... moreEverybody uses WhatsApp, that's why "Send original quality" option is so important. That way at least you can tell them to send it to you that way so the photo is original with preserved size and EXIF.
You can send photos as files now and it'll send them as originals but explaining that to an average user is a futile effort.

[deleted post]really? so the HD pictures are only 720p? HD stands for high definition and has no relation to 720p just because some want to, not even youtube calls 720p HD these days but thanks for opening my eyes after 10 years working in IT

Not user friendly. Try teaching your grandparents how to do it. Why not just make it a feature to simply upload actual size with a checkbox like WeChat.
