The UWB tech is also very good at data transfers.

There... moreStandalone Linux still gives better customer support in the first place as the distro developers knows how to deal with problems related to their distro in the first place. To me, Linux experience on ChromeOS and also on Windows Subsystem is still too geeky for general customers.

Bluetooth has a 4Mbps data transfer rate, while UWB's is 1Gbps. This could potentially lead to lossless audio with little to no latency. I will never use Bluetooth headphones unless they have single-digit latency and provide lossless audio, which can't happen unless either the Bluetooth 6 spec has 1Gbps data transfer rates, or UWB replaces Bluetooth."

    - CD quality wireless audio doesn't require anywhere near 1Gbps. Spark Microsystems a Canadian semiconductor company specialising in next-generation Ultra-Wide Band. Have already successfully demonstrated a prototype wireless headset using UWB with a 10Mbps rate back at CES 2023 for uncompressed 24bit/96kbps high-res CD quality and better. Latency is also only 3ms, which is considerably much lower than Bluetooth!

" Either way, the people behind Bluetooth are sitting on their asses all lazy and complacent, so I don't think Bluetooth is going to survive in the next 5 years or so."

    - Bluetooth is already in practically everything smartphones, portable speakers, laptops, cars, smartwatches, smart lights ect. It's not going to go away anytime soon.... similar how the outdated Jpeg image format will still be the default on smartphones for a long time!

And for most people/companies that is the whole point in getting chrome OS flex instead of a linux distribution.

But aside our preferences and needs Chromebook and Tablet are different things. Think like iPad vs MacBook. One runs iOS on bigger screens and the other runs Mac os which is for Computing and even bigger screens. Different architecture for different application

Fast, frictionless, cross-OS* wireless peer-to-peer data transfer without web accounts. That'll be the day. Bluetooth is too slow and fiddly, and Wifi Direct somehow never got traction. How many more years must we wait?

*: Something non-clunky between Android and Windows would suffice, since Apple always does their own thing anyway.

Apple will come out with it in the same year we lose ICE in new vehicles and will be so late to the party that android users will have tried that, thought - meh and the tech will only catch on with iSheep.

I don't care about Chomebooks at all, considering Chrome OS is so limited and I prefer Linux. What interests me more is UWB potentially replacing Bluetooth. Who would get Chromebooks? Just get a Samsung Tab S9 and a decent Bluetooth keyboard. It's similarly priced to those average Chromebooks and offers about the same performance as one of the 13th gen Intel i9s.

If the UWB replaces Bluetooth in the future the article mentioned, I bet you right now, Apple will be the first.
