nubia's first 1-inch 35mm camera-equipped phone pictured

The camera module is huge compared to the nubia Z50S Pro's 35mm one.

Cekehhh, 29 Aug 2023Nahhh dude thicker phone doesn't onlys be a good thing... moreI would love a 500G or 600G brick with 6000+ mAh and 7+ inch display

At first it looked like a turntable, vinyl player, with dots on the border to adjust speed

Anonymous, 29 Aug 2023What?? Yep, Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact is likely the worst in that regard.

Zte is the company who actually care about real photography.
        Not just playing with numbers.
But the 85mm lens is more important to me.
It's the area all phones are lagging.
        Please ZTE...
Consider a good sensor for this lens too...

IMX363, 30 Aug 2023They need to be adjusted a bit, brightness, contrast, etc. ... moreGiven that this here is 35mm and also an even larger sensor, I entrust that this will beat the RX100 with or without software.

And also that it is 35mm automatically means less distortion and more natural blur.

The RX100 lineup has only F/2.8 at 35mm, which also means the phone has more natural background blur without software, than the RX100 does.

IMX363, 30 Aug 2023They need to be adjusted a bit, brightness, contrast, etc. ... moreWell, the raws on my edge 30U used to come out desaturated but that got fixed and now they are way better than the automatic JPGs and look really natural.

Well who cares if bump is big if the camera wil outpreform anything on the market like did Muhamad Ali in his boxing life.
Those who want best camera phone ever made will find this appealing even with said bump. For me if i were looking for a perfect camera phone i wouldnt care even it will be 50mm thick.
Rather will have abig thick and a heavy phone with outstanding specs, battery and super B camera than having something casual like others brands offer for much bigger price.

IMX363, 30 Aug 2023Modern smartphones beat the RX100 in challenging conditions... moreThat's mostly down to processing - Smartphones' HDR tone mapping is arguably more aggressive than the one employed by most dedicated cameras in auto mode, so photos from phones tend to look a lot flatter with brighter shadows and compressed highlights.

Phone cameras use many aspherical lens elements as well, and while this helps improve sharpness and correct aberrations/distortions, it also tends to make out-of-focus blurs look busier. However, the same could be said for many other cameras and lenses that also use aspherical elements. In fact I've actually looked through the samples on RX100 VII again and I must say, unless you're shooting at the long telephoto range and focusing on a relatively close subject, the bokeh on this camera looks plenty ugly, too.

IMX363, 30 Aug 2023Modern smartphones beat the RX100 in challenging conditions... moreSimply take photo in raw and covert to jpg if you don't want a smartphone look on a smartphone. Works also well like that on my Moto edge 30U, Raw to jpg covert looks better than the software loaded jpg.

Nick Tegrataker, 30 Aug 2023RX100 and ZV-1 would perform really poorly if you shoot pho... moreModern smartphones beat the RX100 in challenging conditions in auto mode and when handheld in producing cleaner looking image and resolving more detail.

But here's an interest part, even with a lower quality shot, the RX100 still produces a more realistic photo looking shot because it has that lens. Its photo has more 3D look to it, more Z depth, more blur, more subject separation and ultimately, you get a feel that this was taken with a real camera.

With smartphones, you get more detail, but the result is an image, not a photo, if you get what I mean. It's cleaner, but somehow more digital, more plastic looking. If there is blur, it is usually unpleasant and has ghosting. If the noise has not been smoothed out, then it looks bad rather than a normal looking noise (Pixel's especially is awful, looks like radiation).

ZTE can easily use that camera ring for zooming or variable aperture, it can be truly useful for smartphone photography.

IMX363, 29 Aug 2023These IMX989 phones still can't compete with RX100 and... moreRX100 and ZV-1 would perform really poorly if you shoot photos in a dark environment where those phone cameras with a type 1 sensor (e.g. Find X6 Pro) struggle to begin with. The higher resolution sensor of RX100 (I'm treating smartphone 50MP sensors as 12.5MP here) should perform better when there's ample light in the scene, but in low light the combination of larger individual pixels and more mature software processing on X6 Pro would destroy RX100 and any compact cameras of the same sensor size.
