Weekly poll: does the Sony Xperia 5 V deserve a place in your pocket?

03 September 2023
It's priced as a flagship and delivers the great photo, video and audio quality we expect. But it does have flaws that still haven't been fixed.

However, I prefer a smartphone with 128GB of internal storage but with the possibility of memory expansion (microSDXC), than a smartphone with 512GB without expandable memory.

SuperSpruce, 07 Sep 2023Where? The low internal storage is the biggest dealbreaker ... moreIn the Xperia 5 V specs, right here on the site, it says a 256GB variant.

Anonymous, 03 Sep 2023There is 256gb variant Where? The low internal storage is the biggest dealbreaker at that price

SuperSpruce, 06 Sep 2023130h battery endurance is really good for a phone with a fl... moreAnd let's not forge that Samsung has adaptive screen refresh rate whereas Sony doesn't, which makes it even more impressive. For me, I still deeply value the relevance of headphone jack and microSD card slot, which is why I sold my S22 Ultra and bought an Xperia 1 iv. Apart from the chipset that tends to get hot under prolonged use, I'm very happy with my current Sony phone.

130h battery endurance is really good for a phone with a flagship chipset. Although iirc the S23 Ultra gets 126h, and is probably about the same price. It then becomes a question of which is better: Compact or large? Headphone jack or periscope cameras and top class display? 128GB+MicroSD or 256/512GB with no MicroSD slot?

Anonymous, 03 Sep 2023Well jack is mandatory to me, yes, so is great battery life... moreShow me another phone with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or even at least Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 that has both headphone jack and microSD card slot. ASUS Zenfone 9/10, ASUS ROG Phone 6/7, and ZTE nubia Red Magic 7/8 may have a headphone jack, but there's no microSD card slot. So really, Sony is the only choice.

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2023Your point is understood, but the 5 V has a max limit of 1 TB.Nah! It's definitely more since Android can read read more than 1 TB sd cards, depends if 2 TB is available anyway & it could be expensive.

If the price was like 799 or even 899 would've been acceptable otherwise, no thanks.

I'm an Xperia fan but this Xperia 5 V with its dual cameras is asking for waaaaay too much money.

Anonymous, 04 Sep 2023No I'm not siding with them. You guys don't under... moreMicroSD + Headphone jack + North America 5G is a rare combo. Unless you count fake 5G, it's not even in the Xperia lineup.

Never another Sony for me. Carrier support is non-existent and Sony's idea of fixing a buggy feature is deleting the feature. You get the feeling like Sony hates customers.

I just replaced my Xperia 1 III with a ROG Phone 7. Wow, it's good to have cell signal and fast GPS again.

BTW for just a bit more I could buy an Asus Rog, which also has 3.5mm, bigger screen, awesome speakers and just as good battery.
If I was willing to spend tons of money on a phone, It would have been the Asus (I won't buy anything without the 3.5mm jack, unless I'm absolutely forced to, but then It won't be a flagship, because a flagship should have all the features, otherwise it's not worth it).

                                Nope.

Well i said there are better flagship out there.
Although Sony quality is great have a 7 years old Sony Bravia TV at home and perfectly working without any issues.
Most of the Sony products are well overpriced.
my Moto Edge 40 pro costed me 789 euros and does a lot more tricks than Sony also it came with 100 eur worth of accesories in box.
Sony aint perfect but aint words and is a no for me since i hate tossing money out of the window or flushing in toilet for nothing.
If other device does same or better tricks for much less i will buy some other device.
Since said Sony Bravia TV i got with a 70% discount it was easy pick for me.

I do have an SD card but can't install apps on it and some apps don't let you change the location of where the data gets stored. Maybe that's just my old phone however.

Right now there are plenty of phones with SD card slot and audio jack so just buy one without complaining about the price. As long it's available just get it. You guys complain too much. Either about the lack of features or the price
