Android One is Stock Rom, but Stock Rom is not always Android One. Both are two different things. With Android One, vendor paid Google to develop software updates on our devices until 2 years, while Stock Rom is just... you put that AOSP on that phone, optimize it and put this and that by yourself, and here you go. Updates are developed by yourself, not by Google. So the difference is "who's developed the software". While Android One is developed by Google, any other close-to-stock ROM is by own vendor.
And implementing stock ROM on own phone is much cheaper than putting some heavy UI on it considering stock ROM is "less-touched" ROM, where you're not putting much new codes on the ROM while heavy UI usually modified the AOSP codes in a lot bigger portion.
And yeah indeed it costs more to develop a longer software update on a phone. That's why I don't think we need to force Transsion much especially if they're forcing themselves to use that heavy UI. Ngl but 3 years security patch is enought - because that's what most average users need. Security patch is far more important than those new features update.

These 1-2 year software updates cut a serious cost out of phones as they dont need to have a team locked on doing support updates on a single modle for 4-5 years so they can do there full lineup support on one team with one new model and one old model. Now think of doing the update support for like 4-5 generations of there full lineup as the amount of work it needs and how much you need to spend on paying wage on the team who is working for that.

Thats why Samsung is more expensive is cause of longer period of time of updates. Look HMD/Nokia with it's budget low end hardware in the higher middle class prices as they dont even need to spend a lot on design even.

I like everything well organized and always send tips with correction, but most of times they ignore me.

404, 02 Sep 2023> They could also restructure the dev UI team and switch... moreOld Xiaomi phones had TONS of security breaches and ads. Xiaomi was considered one of the most unsafe phones some years ago because of that. My Redmi 6A had tons of ads and "suggested posts" in many apps.

After a few tweeks, no more ads and spam. Their system eventually got better and more secure.

Now, see how they are loved and treated like gods nowadays.

Give time to time, but keep pressing Infinix, Tecno and Transsion for improvements. Xiaomi was constantly bombarded by its users and changed.

Not trying to defend Transsion, but there's a reason for them to put those bloats there. Like how Xiaomi got profits back then, Transsion also use ads from their apps to gain more profits. Sure the ads is not as much as the one you'll find in Xiaomi, but it's still annoying if you just moved from something that never implemented ads on notification like Samsung or Pixel. (Yeah I usually got ads notification from their Store and Games Center app).
They might also got paid for including this x apps on their phone, who knows.

Infinix is my future favorite Smart Phone Company... Probably, in 2024 they will start to selling, High End Cell Phone with just 499 US Dollars... 8K 60 Fps OIS Camera, 6000 Mah Battery, 300 Watt Thunder Charger and 8K Ghost Amoled Screen... Go Infinix.

Anders, 02 Sep 2023Nearly done with the review but yet your specs page is stil... moreJeez. Hold your horses bud, I'm sure they're adding that info.

Nearly done with the review but yet your specs page is still wrong. Still lists the microSD support as "unspecified" and still lists it as having a headphone jack. Ridiculously it has neither.

                                GSMarena aren't even trying anymore

justasmile, 02 Sep 2023Well, everything has a compromise and this is no exception ... moreInfinix will improve it, but do people still say that? yes, see Xiaomi related news, reviews etc. They still only know about MIUI bugs and zero software support.

I am also sure this will also happen to Infinix and other Chinese brands.

Interesting, ZERO 30 having an autofocus on front facing camera. Now I think it is a great feature, like on vivo V27 or few of vivo V series.

justasmile, 02 Sep 2023Well, everything has a compromise and this is no exception ... moreSure. However, it does seem like Transsion is picking up their pace, and if they play their cards right, they could become a major brand, bringing better specs and features on a tight budget, while allowing themselves to have even better specs on their flagships, which they'll bring even more innovation on.

Both their Infinix and Tecno brands could do with some work, in that it would make more sense to merge them into one, and have fewer phones, while having the defining features of both brands visible.

If I was Transsion, I'd also have one common aesthetic on every one of my smartphones, and would have this setup:

•Tecno Phantom X3 Lite, Tecno Phantom X3, Tecno Phantom X3 Pro — serves as the flagship line, and uses the kind of innovative technology seen in the Tecno Cameron sub-brand as well
•Tecno Phantom Z3 Lite, Tecno Phantom Z3, Tecno Phantom Z3 Pro — the budget line, essentially replacing the Infinix Zero line; the new Lite variant is for people on the tightest of budgets, i.e a slightly better specced competitor to the Samsung A04s at around the same price

Additionally, they should go global, should ship especially in poorer countries around the world, and should promise at least 3 years of OS and security updates. Because Transsion doesn't really currently offer long-term updates beyond a year, 1 OS update every year for 3 years and 3-monthly security patches for 3 years sounds much more reasonable. They wouldn't need to hire that many new developers for it, so it's not a big problem. They could also restructure the dev UI team and switch to using a stock ROM that doesn't have bloatware besides a few nifty things offered by them (camera app, custom UI customisation on top of stock UI), and essentially have more security-focused developers while having much less UI-focused ones.

Well, everything has a compromise and this is no exception - it's the update support.
