Anonymous, 04 Sep 2023RISC-V is the future Best of luck seeing Apple embracing RISC-V. Apple recently sign a licensing deal with Arm that extends until 2040 and beyond. If you really wanna see RISC-V being the future, Linux devs should start taking actions. Only then we can see if it's feasible in the future.

Hugo, 04 Sep 2023Something is very fishy about softbank trying to sell arm. ... moreProbability is there.
ARM is not progressing much like it used to do.
In future who knows what will happen.

But in next 100 years chip based products will increase in market, normal people might use those products, that means those who will succed to make and sell most efficient chips will prosper and might even dethrone the current software based tech companies.

yaa, 05 Sep 2023what happened to the bizarre Chinese CEO who refused to lea... moreBasically, that story was "buried".
The rich who control narratives in the media do not want to expose their incompetence. The entire fiasco was stupid start to finish. As highly-connected Chinese beauricrats were given a token of trust, which was abused, but obviously so.

The individual in particular and his team stole some important intellectual property, including the Cortex-A77 and the blueprints for the Cortex-X1. That is one of the reasons Huawei and HiSilicon were able to remain competitive, even though the USA revoked their license during the days of the Snapdragon 845. They also managed to secure preliminary builds of the TSMC-5nm nodes. For all intents and purposes, Huawei was meant to be stuck with TSMC-10nm, Cortex-A75, and Android v9 by the actions of the USA Sanctions in 2018. Due to delays in the process they managed to secure TSMC-7nm, Cortex-A76, and Android v10 access in 2019. Yet after the sanctions, well into 2021, they moved onto getting access to TSMC-5nm, Cortex-A77+ cores, and Android v11. Yet today they "somehow" (hint: Honor) have access to the latest ARM v9 processors, new silicon, and their "brand new operating system" is built heavily on the framework of the latest Android OS.

Despite all this, the USA sanctions did infact have some heavy affect on the company, and it's profitability. It's been kept alive with these backdoor deals, government funding, and propaganda in the Mainland Market. So they aren't playing fair, but I cannot say that is a bad thing.

The ARM deal was originally supposed to make up for many of their losses, but that obviously never got approved. And now that the Sprint buyout got finalized, I believe they got a decent chunk of cash from T-Mobile, so their straits aren't as dire as in 2020/21.

Hugo, 04 Sep 2023Something is very fishy about softbank trying to sell arm. ... moreBecause that is what "investment" firms like Softbank does. Buy stock for quick profits. Be it sell offs, liquidations or contentious fund raising with no intent to deliver. I don't get why the UK government greenlit Softbank as a buyer of Britains most important IT company. Then again, Britain haven't done much right the last decade. :)

Something is very fishy about softbank trying to sell arm. Why would they want to sell a decently profitable company. It seems to me like a repeat of the Nokia and Elop episode. There is probably a trojan horse somewhere in softbank.

Most definitely not an investment but insurance.

This GSMArena article is but one that tracked the story

An extremely well written concise source.
Obtaining shares is NOT to get a seat on the board equal "access" to the board which a non shareholders albeit client would not.

This is main point of the story written by Reuters

"A scramble among Arm's clients, comprising the world's biggest technology companies, to snap up shares in the IPO is testing the semiconductor designer's adherence to not picking sides in the chip industry.

The interest is fueled by a desire by companies to expand their commercial relationship with Arm and make sure rivals do not gain an edge, Reuters has previously reported."
