Hardware is not that exciting anymore.
What's exciting nowadays is software. Android needs 5 years of updates. Especially with the increasing prices.

SShock, 18 Sep 2023Hardly, when Google has worse long term software support th... moreYes I’m not exactly sure how Google have managed to get themselves into this situation with the Pixel line. Don’t get me wrong there has been issues since the first device, but these always seemed to be more along the lines of teething problems. And the standard advice given out from those in the know was if you are considering a new pixel wait till a few months after launch, it should be fine then.
This seems to not be the case with more recent models, where those problems just seem to persist, maybe the move to Tensor has been a contributing factor 🤷
Also, as you say Google are not exactly being the shining beacon for others to follow as far as software support goes, with more than one of their partners now outpacing them in terms of consistency, reliability and overall term of support.
A very odd state of affairs.

Also they had several features broken for weeks and months. FIRST PARTY! I was considering Pixel 7 Pro, but between underwhelming specs, bizarre software issues that they couldn't fix, high price of the said device and their unobtainability, I just couldn't opt for it. Also 3 years of updates. What kind of joke was that for a first party? They upped it now for planned Pixel 8, but it's just all too late.

Pulled my old iPhone XR from a drawer and iOS 17 is installing this moment. Just one of those things I still love about Apple. When they release something, they release it for everyone and with a changelog. Not like everyone else seeding updates across several days during which you have no clue when you'll get the update. And then there's just vague changelog with "General improvements" and nothing else. Sigh. I love my S23 Ultra, but their updating is still so sad compared to Apple. And Samsung is like the best example in the Android world. Anyway, lets see what iOS 17 is like...

Still no sign of sideloading, third party store or alternative os.
Still stuck using their unsecure stock apps like iMessage / Webkit with yearly zero click vulnerabilities.
