autocascading, 23 Sep 2023Garmin Pay? Does anyone accept that?Yes, it's accepted anywhere mobile payments work, and it's actually compatible with a decent number of banks/cards (particularly in larger markets). Works better than I ever thought it would.

I have no idea how complicated a feature to actually code that is, but it does seem to be one of these boundaries that divides the "fitness trackers" from "smartwatches" e.g. how Huawei's watch 4 series can do custom replies on a keyboard (and voice dictation) while the GT4 can only do the pre-set replies.

it's more like a vivo3 lite now. MIP screen is better for outdoor activities with AOD and battery life but they already released bunch of sports oriented MIP screen models for the last couple of months. I understand the direction garmin is taking. they simply want more presence in smartwatch market. vivo3 is the premium model and vivoactive became the more affordable variant from now on. however, they need need a magnetic charger, thinner bezels, more app support and wider NFC payment footprint to compete with apple and samsung watches in smartwatch category. till then, they need lower prices to get more attention.

Solun1, 22 Sep 2023Why are they releasing the Watch Active2 again with a Garmi... moreI'm no expert but I think most probably they want to make money out of their customers.

Why are they releasing the Watch Active2 again with a Garmin name slapped on it?

Why can't i give myself a chance to like smartwatches? Nope, i prefer traditional watches! And why's this looking like galaxy watch/pixel watch?

ugh, oled screen? 4's MIPS screen was perfect, its not distracting nor does lit up the whole room, plus its always-on by default with no battery drain like with oled AoD. And still no magnetic charging, it still uses the old connector. So this is just downgrade from vivoactive 4, another pointless update, they should have called this venu 3 lite if they are going to appeal to the apple/galaxy watch kiddos.

No esim no sale, not to mention their subscription model

So there's no calling for £260? Not really a competitive price really... You can get all these in Huawei watch gt3 nearly half price

Except the oled screen (which is not that loved by old garmin fans) and probably a bit bigger battery and updated sensors, it brings nothing new compared with vivoactive 4.

I feel it would ahve been a better differentiator if the Vivoactive had kept the MIP LCD display.
Still, NFC payments, proper custom replies to notifications and ability to see picture messages does push this into proper smartwatch functionality, so is quite compelling at £260 when you count that it has more than double the battery life of the samsung and apple watches.

This is getting confusing. Where does the Vivoactive sit with the Venu? Above or below it? It's cheaper than the new Venu 3. But not much higher than the Venu 2 Sq.
