The perfect example is the S3: The S4 has the same size, BUT bigger screen, battery, camera and CPU.(AND IT'S THINNER)
The problem is they are using the "S4" brand to their advantage. They are selling a low(er)-grade phone with a big name.
P.S your analogy is completely wrong, it's about quality here, not quantity. They put the same quality chocolate in both Kit Kats. :-) For example: Put a smaller screen on a mini-version of a phone, but use the same ppi.

Now is that really mini? I am looking for a phone for my GF. She currently owns an iPhone 4. She wants an Android with good specs and a very good look, with a screen 4'' tops... Dual-Core and 4.3'' just isn't mini or good... :|

This one sports minimal bezel. Here's hoping: 2,100 mah battery, Wolfson DAC, upward of 400 nits of brightness. Could be my next phone.

u-m-add, 13 May 2013u say that cause u love samsung ... right ?I've seen the Xperia Z and S4 and to be honest, who wouldn't love a 5" screen made up of gorgeous display? In terms of screen, XZ loses easily. From the back, Z is obviously better, in terms of looks. I tried holding it and it feels like a brick. I hated it and immediately crossed it off my list.

The reason 'mini' versions of phones dont have the same specs is because they dont have the capacity to hold as much parts on the inside obviously.
But i'll tell you what, if you can make a kit-kat with the same amount of chocolate and wafer thats in a normal size kit-kat but make it smaller then I will disregard all 'mini' products in the future. Go on I dare you.

some people just want to criticise samsung by their design and plastic body
But u guys r forgetting that there r many companies who still make phone with plastic
And there is nothing cheap at least it doesn't break so easily
ANd for apple supporters n fanboys ur glass breaks!!!!!!!! and the metal at the side gets a lot of scratches i know that coz i use an iphone 4 which unfortunately my sister gifted me else i wouldn't have bought an iphone
