Flashback: the LG G8 lost the plot

15 October 2023
A huge notch? A separate fingerprint reader on the back? No telephoto lens? That was not a good look for a flagship in 2019.

What I was saying was that while the LG G8 did have a large notch compared to it's S10 competitor, that notch had high security face unlock hardware. AKA the exact same situation as apple.

As a G8 owner, I'm so glad I bought this phone for 200 dollars-ish very soon after its release. It is still a useful phone due to the audio jack and doesn't feel dated minus the bezels. I can forgive the notch due to lightning fast face unlock and I use the fingerprint reader to drop the notification shade.

Tldr love it, zero regrets, just wish it had a tele cam.

These should be created as the same phone at the first place. While I prefer simply making the Korean G8 global instead of letting any G8S element affect.

My G8 just retired this week, after 4 years and 3 months of use. This also marks the end of my 7 consecutive years of using LG phones. It's still running great, just that I need a more up-to-date phone for my needs, so I have to switch finally, but my G8 is will surely be my great spare phone now.

A huge thanks to this buddy, it's my 2nd LG phone that can be my main driver for 4 years (the first one is the G6, now with some issues caused by myself but still works great in general).

CargoJoe, 15 Oct 2023LG should've put their top flagships to be as capable ... moreExperiements costs a lot. You need to get money back through sales.
Wing was midrange, still same same price of V60.

The whole LG G8 Lineup with the G8S and G8X was just a massive blunder and made no sense to me. All 3 have some good features that the others don't have. The G8X had the best battery life and the coolest feature with the second display. The G8S had a tripple camera setup and screen and the most practical fingerprint. The Regular G8 meanwhile had face unlock and the best screen.

Why they couldn't just combine the features of all 3 and make a G8 Pro is beyond me. A phone with 3 cameras, face unlock and a second screen with 4 Ah battery would have definitely turned heads in 2019.

They started putting in cheap and defective parts from the G3 itself that I had, and I also saw how my LG G4, bought a month ago, died at that time! That same day I said, never before has an LG not even passed 2 years and they were already in the grave.... they despised the Latin American market*, mainly Mexico, which in America was their largest market behind the United States! they make some diS I saw the movie about the rise and fall of BlackBerry they should make one about LG too

Lg had some of the most influential phones in smartphone industry. They were also the first one to bring ultrawide camera to smartphones.

Reading this article on my Lg G8 🥲🥲🥲

Used to have a G4 and loved that phone (with Nova Launcher slapped on top).

Man I wanted a G6 when that came out (such an important phone from a design perspective), but couldn't afford it, and later got a Note 8 on a deal.

LG's big problem for me was that their phones' prices used to tumble not that long after launch, meaning few folks were willing to pay full whack.

YUKI93, 15 Oct 2023The G8 is LG's answer to the similarly-sized Galaxy S1... moreAnd that is where this arcticle causes some confusion.

The G8S was meant for EU and if not mistaken the India market.

The G8 never came out in EU, so tge G8S wasn't just a cheaper phone but a different one for a different market.

Why? Well that is the true question, but I don't mind we got the G8S, it had the telephoto, it lacked tge quad dac marketing but has a dac that just as capable.

Also not having the 2K display had a massive influence on the battery life, the G8S lasted much longer on a charge.

EU never got the G8, we got the G8S.

Honestly I really liked that phone a lot, compared to the G8 it had lower resolution but much better battery life.

And it had everything I wanted in a phone except solid update support (it would end at A11 but when LG stopped making phones they gave a A12 update for it)

And it was a steal, carriers and stores were dumpint that phone for 350 euro just 2 months after release here... which is sad, but I got my money worth from it.

And the accessories in box would be insane by today standards (looking at you Sony), you got a case, charging cable, power brick, actually fine earbuds and a nice high quality cloth case with stealthy LG logo on it.

Yeah... I wish LG was still making phones.
