Hopefully this transition will make its own apps (which have .HAP extension) run faster and lighter.

          So i have 2 mate 50 pros, one mainland China with harmony os4, and one international with eumi13. The only thing harmony really does is connect very well with other devices (car, watches, tv's etc) But as far as the actual phone experience, it offers nothing more. Actually to my surprise, the international emui is slightly faster (benchmarks are identical, but opening and loading apps emui is actually faster, by a little) I expected the opposite really. Either way, I think harmony is is really looking into the future with things like a smart house, smart living were everything is connected, but for the actual phone use, it offers nothing special.

            Anonymous, 30 Oct 2023Android to go against android? It WAS an AOSP in early releases which made it compatible with android apps, but with next releases they'll start removing AOSP code for fully independent OS, so no compatibility with android apps.

            Even though, I know people in the west would still call it android and mocking it as a copycat because they refuse any competition from China. As for me, I'd rather have Chinese spying on me than the whole CIA/FBI/NSA together with the "five eyes".

              Some folks assumed Huawei would just feel sorry for themselves and sit and cry helpless. Well, they got it all wrong. And they also didn't consider that Huawei is too big to let it fail.

Harmony OS is not Android, Huawei just allowed the early version of Harmony OS to support Android apps during the transition time. And rightly so, it would not have made sense for Huawei to release a completely different OS and leave it's users who had Huawei phones with Android phones in the cold, so there was need to transition slowly and allow these customers to continue use Android apps.
                      Harmony and android OS have completely different architecture, Harmony use micro kernel while Android use monolithic kernel. These two are completely different architectures in the way they implement instructions.
                      In fact, Huawei will be discontinuing support for Android apps in future Harmony OS so there will be nothing in common between these two operating systems.

                        Me with Huawei Mate 60 Pro+ and Mate 60 RS as well as P60 Pro is happy with this milestone

Going by the article if they ditched updates for 3 I reckon they are concentrating on making Harmony global with 4 or 5. My hot take is they have plans to launch harmony globally alongside global versions of the new Kirin powered devices.

                                  I feel like their UI needs to be a bit more creative. Something that makes it stand out from all the rest.
