Watcher22, 01 Nov 2023How is Xiaomi exactly spying? Can you advise as I was consi... moreNo, it is the same. Cookies etc. if you use their browser instead of google chrome, or a different browser. Most mainstream browsers does this google chrome is pre-installed and given as one of the many options google has to offer you to select when buying a new android phone with google android running on it.
Targeted marketing means no ads for tampons if you're a man - residing outside of Los Angeles.
Just as an example.

LoneOwl, 01 Nov 2023Thats why they rushed to release these phone as early as Oc... morePeople are gonna say defend Xiaomi and say that 'oh, RnD and taxes which is why they cost so much outside of China. But these people are ignorant.
I live in a country outside of Europe with nowhere near as much tax and the 13 Pro launched for the same price as in Europe.
No, it's clearly Xiaomi making back money from the years of selling on margin: now by marking up the prices insanely outside of China they can start to recover. Of course, they can't raise the prices in China to keep the excuse of 'oh it's the taxes' fault' and they cannot afford to lose their own market. So we outside of China have to pay.
They are following the same trends as all tech companies: after years of operating at razer thin margin or even at a loss, they now need to hike prices to make back the money. You see this everywhere now - Netflix, Spotify, YouTube; all increasing their prices after their years of rapid growth. Xiaomi is no exception, and us consumers get the shafted in the end.
Take this with a grain of salt, I'm no economist. This is just an observation I thought may be valid.

Thats why they rushed to release these phone as early as October 2023.
Snap 8 gen3 earlier than everyone else
Hype(r) OS
Leica partnership etc
And remember their China pricing is half the cost from what these devices sell in the West.
Xiaomi 14pro sells in China for as low as 650E.
Xiaomi 13pro starting price in Europe was 1300E

Definitely, the sales are way up mostly driven by the non-pro model. I have 4 Xiaomi stores near me they are busier than I've ever seen them. Actually got a call today from Xiaomi's official jindong store trying to convince me to trade in my current Xiaomi phone for the Xiaomi 14. Good marketing! Over 10 billion rmb in intial sales according to their own stats which would mean they probably sold more than 2 million devices if true. That would be pretty huge for Xiaomi. Normally only Huawei would have that kind of demand for flagship series devices in China.
