More Secure? I have the actual sim card in my phone. If somebody hacked my Whatsapp account, I can kicked them out by deleting the app data and reactivating.
I might have misunderstood the email verification.
If you re telling me I can activate a new WhatsApp account with my email address instead of a telephone number; then I am all for it. If so, then I am not going to enter my phone number into that account. Which means, I can have many WhatsApp accounts because I have many email addresses...

It's amusing to see so many people accuse Meta of data farming, when their own phone numbers are given out by themselves to smaller companies that are more desperate for the profit,
Also, you're all on mailing lists anyway. I guarantee it.

I have no problem if it's optional, but I'd rather take my odds with hackers than giving Meta my e-mail.

You just followed others what ever they do and don't even dare to set your own path with your own terms. Other meaning is puppet that attached to very very hard string. I control my life, I do what is best for me and not the other way around. If others in so called group died by poison (because it's popular way to die) are you going to do the same thing? Or are you going to set your own term of how you want to die? Ask yourself. Simple as that. Ohh BTW, in my country, Whatsapp is very popular and like 95% is using it. My friends and people I know are using it. Yet, I decided not to use WhatsApp. I'm happy with my decision. Why? Only true friend will find me (chat with me using other messaging app that I use) unlike when I'm using WhatsApp. Same goes for Facebook that I deleted like almost 10 years ago. I social in real time, face to face and not by stupid social media apps or platforms.

Hope they won't ask for you IDs & Bank details to verify your identity next.
Only if people could swith to better alternative like Signal,then I would've stayed away from this crapp.
Meta is desperate after sufferingheavy losses,putting everything possible to bring new users & collect as much as data it can.

If my friends and families aren't using WhatsApp, I'd still be daily driving my Microsoft Lumia 950 XL with my primary SIM card today. The only reason I cannot do that anymore is because of WhatsApp.

My advice don't install this App because it's Not Open Source.
Don't have a independent audit.
Metadata it's Not protected .
Have analytics tracker's and extract all personal info Contact list Device IDs IMEI Location and many more .
And Signal Protocols use in WhatsApp it's not Open Source like Signal.
Practically for my this app 0 trust!
