What they want is not important at all. EU has rules about fair competition (including minimum taxes) and all states are OBLIGED to follow them. That is condition to be part of EU and it is necessary to have access to EU market.

Of course they discovered some errors which for some unknown reason couldn't be discovered before. The usual story of how someone in the government wants to get their piece of the pie for free, because I guarantee you that the Irish budget will only see a fraction of the sum even if they win.

Maybe you need me to explain that because you appear not to understand? This means that Ireland every year gives more money to the EU than it receives from the EU. This money is used to support other contries that receive more than they get from the EU. Only 9 of the 27 member states are net contributors and Ireland is one of these. The remaining 18 member states receive more money from the EU than then pay.

Anonymous, 10 Nov 2023How is this a huge? That's peanuts for a company that ... moreLet me paint an image for you. Apple has 2.8 trillion dollars (market cap/net worth). Let's just say the EU comes along and spots some tomfoolery Apple is doing behind their Apple Park. The EU slaps them with a 5% fine of that market cap/net worth.

That 5% of 2.8 trillion = 140,000,000,000 (140 billion dollars). It's not loose change at all but it's nowhere near putting Apple in a tight spot. This company is unexplainably rich. And thanks to an iPhone loved by the averge masses.

Another picture is that 140 billion. If we took that 140 biillion and gave it to everyone on Earth (even babies), everyone would have circa 17.50 USD. Also TIm Cook has like 2 billion in market cap :D

There was never any doubt imo. I wa really surprised that Apple won the appeal, when you see the reasons for the win, how is it logical to say that when the tax rate us 12.5% and you plying less than 1% in a secret deal, you are not getting an advantage

The worst part is that when Apple lost the Irish Government said it wouldn't collect the taxes.
We don't $14bn in taxes from the rich, we gave too much already

                                        14,000 million = 14,000,000,000

If you have a bucket of one million, you need one thousand buckets to make a billion. They have to give fourteen thousand of that bucket to Ireland for taxes. That is a lot of money my boy!
