If talking about Quad Prism, then it's not "reflective". Prisms don't reflect, they're not mirrors. It's all about refraction.

This is what photography world says.
Not my fault if gsmarena keeps calling fixed focal length as optical zoom when it is wrong.

Digitalization, 21 Nov 2023It's a telephoto. Not a zoom. Telephotos have fixed mm... morePrime is about fast aperture, could be super wide, standard or telephoto.
135mm f1.8 like Sony GM is mid telephoto, also prime lens.
Telephoto is about range. No matter aperture.

iphone 15pro max has a worse 3-4.9x zoom range due to new 5x lens compared to 14pro max and 15pro. I believe they need to improve digital lossless zoom at this point rather than rely only on a long reach optical zoom. sony did it but has hw limitations, oneplus did it best so far. huawei is such a minor brand due to lack of global footprint. apple would a much profitable brand to partner with.

I would prefer 120mm cannon, but zoom lens will suffice.

maxmin, 21 Nov 2023It's a telephoto. Not a zoom. Telephotos have fixed mm... moreEXACTLY!
I have a telephoto 35-150 f/2.8
and I have a zoom, 100-400 f/4.5-f/6.3
The OIS makes up for it being a bit slow. ;)

maxmin, 21 Nov 2023It's a telephoto. Not a zoom. Telephotos have fixed mm... moreIt's a telephoto. Not a zoom. Telephotos have fixed mm focal length. Zooms use movable lenses to vary the mm focal length optically
Technically, lenses with fixed focal length are called "Prime lenses".
And those with variable focal length are called "zoom lenses".
Example of some famous Prime lenses:
16mm f/1.4
35mm f/1.2
85mm f/1.2
135mm f/1.8
Example of some famous Zoom lenses (you can select any focal length in between as specified by lens):
16-35mm f/2.8
24-70mm f/2.8
70-200mm f/2.8
Prime lenses are smaller as compared to Zoom lenses which are way more complex and generally larger in size due to variable focal length.
The cameras in any phone uses Prime lens. The zoom range specified by manufaturers are when taking entire camera system as a single unit.
So technically on an iphone 15promax you can zoom from 13mm to 120mm but not with a single lens it uses two different cameras.
But if you want to do it from a mirrorless camera then you can do from a single lens.
The "f/n" alongside the names of lens denotes the aperture and since it is inverse means f/1.2 is larger in size than f/1.4.
Just check camera sample images/videos from the above mentioned prime lenses like 85mm f/1.2 and you will be amazed (on a big screen)
A professional camera(pro lens) offers great quality and smartphones offers great versatility.

Kangal, 21 Nov 2023Not quiet, and it's all arbitrary anyway.
The moniker... more24-70mm is zoom, just like 200-600.
But is not telephoto.
135mm is telephoto but not zoom.
A telephoto has to have at least 80mm. Then it is named short telephoto, mid telephoto or long telephoto.

maxmin, 21 Nov 2023It's a telephoto. Not a zoom. Telephotos have fixed mm... moreNot quiet, and it's all arbitrary anyway.
The monikers range from: Fisheye, Ultrawide, Wide, Macro, Cropp, Telephoto, Periscope, and Zoom.
You can think of them in terms of "mm" which is more accurate. But I've heard people refer to them loosely based on "zoom" and it makes more intuitive sense, for instance: x0.3, x0.7, x1.0, x1.2, x2.0, x3.0, x5.0, x9.0 etc etc.

Small spec battle, moving 3x, 10x to more interesting place, unlike Folds that can do just 3x, or VRs that are happy with wide 4K.
Photographers with FF zooms are laughing at these ''Pro'' battles.
It's like, the more futuristic device is, the worse it gets...

It does not require to have fixed FL.
