Is it a another button like the power buttons and volume buttons? No. Is it an evolution of the mute switch it replaces? No. Is it a rip off of Sony camera button despite not being a camera button? Yes.

Anonymous, 01 Dec 2023They've had a shutter button that does different tasks... moreNokia phones had two stage shutter buton (first stage, focus, second, fire) way ahead of any sony or samsungs. So is sony a ripoff? Do not get me wrong, i do not care about apple, but i do not find this to be a ripoff, just another nothing new from apple...just saying.

10 years had past and even after rapid hardware & software advancements, Apple still cannot provide gestures & shortcuts feature provided by Cydia's Activator I used on iOS 6.
In activator, you can easily assign actions to many types of single/multi-finger swipe gestures on the screen or on the notification bar, and assign actions to double-click / long press of the volume / power buttons. It can even do different actions when we're on the homescreen or inside an app.
Even by adding more "physical" buttons on iPhone 16, the amount of actions still cannot match what Activator offered.

Anonymous, 01 Dec 2023They've had a shutter button that does different tasks... moreSo a physical camera button is the same as a capacitive customisable button I suppose because they're both buttons

EskeRahn, 01 Dec 2023Well yes, but not as childish as when Google renamed the &q... moreYou took the words out of my mouth. I hated the rename to Google Play Store. And what is this button-ophobia that mobile device designers suffer from? They think its cool to remove buttons, dont they? How sad.

Anonymous, 01 Dec 2023Yes Sony invented buttons They've had a shutter button that does different tasks depending on how deeply it's pressed for years now. And because it's a mechanical button, that means Apple's ripoff is just that, a bad copy of the real deal.

Ribbz, 01 Dec 2023Feature a 'Action button' what is this sounds so ... moreWell yes, but not as childish as when Google renamed the "Android Market" to its current silly name "Google Play". I wonder how many over 15 where the main purpose of their phone is a playground?.
I remember the Iphone 6- I had, where they had assigned functions to long press short press, double press, triple press, and both keys pressed together, because they insisted you only need one side key and one front key... I guess we should be glad that they did not request us to enter things using Morse code with this....
But they might be able to make an Iphone even less intuitive to use, by requiring people to learn different pressure strengths as well. I would not be surprised at all....

Two more buttons on the sides will make revolution in design.
