Honestly thinking buying upcoming Sony xperia 5/1 vi or Samsung galaxy s24+/Ultra even if price difference will be huge.

Having a set exposure value is helpful when you're trying multiple shots in challenging lighting or to achieve a certain look consistently. You know full well the camera software will try and interpret the shots by its own, which might not be to users' liking.

    Why not just use the Pro mode? Auto mode is more practical for smartphone photography which by nature is point-and-shoot. You also get the stock processing which isn't available in manual mode. I shoot portrait photography on my phone as a hobby, and I know I can appreciate this feature if it's available. Locking the exposure only works at the time the camera app is open, a set exposure means I can just close the camera for a bit then launch it again and not having to fiddle with exposure sliders.

    Also, most importantly, it's a feature that doesn't block other features to work. It's a nice to have, and a feature that not every smartphone has. Why not have it anyway?

Even in GSMA video samples both main and ultrawide on 5V outshine both of Open cameras. OP lifts shadows so bad, it kills the juice in colors. Not sure why they did that. They have some serious sharpening and contrast issues in ultrawide.

          this raises my question. why not use the pro mode? was their built in camera app does not have one? or users just didn't know there's one?

            Between this and thed pixel. Less and less reasons to buy a sony phone
