I know Samsung from the days the made regular dumbphones. Back then they were not copying others really and they were really innovative. Same can be said of most brands like Nokia, Siemens, Ericsson... back in the booming days of GSM. Now to be clear I'm not a Samsung fanboy (I'm not a fanboy of any brand actually) and they also can make real rubbish. Chinese brands do have nice (and good) stuff as well.

Seems like samsung dont sell design these days. They realise design is just gimmick and they know their market well. Samsung user wont be bothered with racing-look design since samsung’s strongest key selling point right now is their UX through one UI. And they make it bold with providing longest software support in android world. Even google cant match samsung in that aspect.

I was not implying that a design should be revolutionary, I was only reacting to a claim of one brand copying the other which is in this case not true at all. Except for the U notch, these two phones don't look the same at all. Of course, they are rectangular slabs with at least one glass side, a frame and a back side. Not much you can do with that (or can it...Nokia pure view...it doesn't have to be flat all the time). Same goes for your example being books, except for the type of square, size and materials there isn't much to "design".

I still remember the time, when Galaxy J and A series had almost similar back cover as Galaxy S III and guess what, since 2013 samsung maintain as number one top smartphone marketshare.
