I'd love it to have an amazing camera that could at least match the lower end of the higher end phones at the high price points they are asking for. I would choose the RoG phone over any others mainly because of its great audio system that makes this phone an extremely amazing device for media and entertainment.

Those so called tech geeks uses updaes but those whos phone primary function is calls and texts and secondary function brownsing, whatsapp, facebook, messenger, tik tok, signal and telegram does not care much.
And those who are tech geeks are MINORITY maybe 1-2% of population rest is MAJORITY people who dont care about updates,
Feel free to ask your mom or dad or grandparents if they care for updates. Feel free to ask uncles or aunties and people with age of 40+.

This I just play games on. Only games and stream PC games too. That's it. I have never taken a picture on it, ever. I want something comfortable to hold that makes gaming better, spend the money investing in better gaming solutions. Not photos.

Sadly they just didn't manage to make something that was truly compromise free when they were around (the V60 had a 1080p 60hz display, which was unfortunate for an otherwise very good phone even back in 2020).

Mills, 11 Dec 2023What I was saying was that, the cameras are not a priority ... moreGiven the actual benefits of a gaming phone overa normal phone are diminishing year on year (120hz and great cooling systems have been commonplace for years now), the bare minimum I expect when paying what previous RoG phones have cost is a camera that can at least keep up with other phones that are the same or less.
Most of those won't have a headphone jack (this is unfortunately far rarer than it really needs to be) but that doesn't mean sacrificing the camera is the correct answer. Now I'm sure it will be fine, but at this price point that's not good enough.

Well except if that's an old game which is no longer available on Play Store, and ofc I'm sure that everyone who knows how to do this also uses their common sense to not download from the sketchy websites.

I'm enjoying my RM8Pro and not regretting I switched to RedMagic from ROG. I had a ROG phone 5 before with the SD888 and hell after a year of not so heavy gaming it got dead boot issue. The board was toasted and even after several reball the motherboard dead issue reoccurs. Imagine a $1000 phone and that's what you'll get.
For a sale price of $649, I got my RM8Pro and is super crazy awesome for what I got, plus the internal cooling is really doing it for the sustained performance of its 8Gen2. See the RM9Pro's improved main and ultrawide lenses, plus its now flat. Learn from that Asus.

Should it be the best? No.

Unless you're really into photography, in which case you're more likely to have a dslr with a case of different lenses, filters and likely a fancy portable flash light that has 5 or more tones of white, then you likely do that a lot.
However, if what i wrote hasn't made the gears in your head turn then i guess you're just too spoiled.

That camera lump would be better if they add 2 gaming buttons on the bottom side and make it like a hand grip for gaming. If gaming phone need to have this 2 layer island for camera. At least then the large camera island would at least have a point on a gaming phone

I do hope they really udate things more than just design and SoC. For instance the cameras would be nice that they finally get decent udates. Heck even Redmagic 9 has an OIS on the orimary camera. The loose the 2mox macro and bring AF on the wideangle to enavle better macro this way there will be room for better ugrades, when the filler macro camera is kicked out. Oh and for the price Asus is asking bit more is needed than just incremental updates and way longer OS update schedule as well
