Samsung unveils Galaxy Book4 trio with AI smarts, Intel Core Ultra processors

14 December 2023
All three models - Book4 Ultra, Book4 Pro and Book4 Pro 360 - have touchscreens, HDMI 2.1 ports and a pair of Thunderbolt 4 ports.

Great products at reasonable prices but what really irks me is that the Galaxy Book 4 360 no longer exists; no 13" option which makes it perfect for new 8.5x11" or A4 paper notebook size when using it as a tablet.

I wonder how quickly the panels will get a permanent burn-in, considering they are OLED.

The Galaxy Book2 Pro is 870g, which makes a mockery of the heavyweights Macbook Air and Dell XPS. I'ts a fantastic travelling companion. At 1.23kg the Book4 Pro is just another run-of-the-mill laptop, why would I buy it? I do not understand marketing...

Won't but it because I use Linux, but...
Hey, Apple, can you see that 16Gb of RAM is a minimum configuration? 8Gb is a shame.
          BTW, I use 18 sometimes.

all of them will have win11, so i'm guessing they will have stripped out co-pilot for their own version. with their record of snooping on customers i wouldn't trust them as far as i can throw an elephant. win11 is already a microsoft advertising system so i'm also guessing samsung will have put something in to sell their bloatware aswell. the only saveing grace of these things is that you can switch off the pointless touchscreen features (you have a mouse and keyboard) and the nvidia graphics which are not as good as amd so i think even if i had the money these would get a hard pass. not even installing linux would save them for me.

David Salsero, 14 Dec 2023LET'S NOT FORGET that Hybrid 3D Architecture and Intel... moreBy all accounts that I have read, Intel 4 is almost as competitive as TSMC N3E, though I guess Intel will have some ridiculous power limits for extra 2% performance again for no reason once again even if the architecture and node is very power efficient.

Darth Caesium, 14 Dec 2023The new Intel Meteor Lake chips are super power efficient a... moreLET'S NOT FORGET that Hybrid 3D Architecture and Intel 4 are (7 nm) and AMD 4 nm. The comparison is certainly interesting as the 165H is part of the Meteor Lake-H family, while the AMD Ryzen 7 7840U and Core i7-1370P are a step below their "H" series siblings.
Here I SHOW THE GREAT DIFFERENCE IN POWER, a ridiculous Intel
                Intel Core Ultra 7 165H (Meteor Lake) - 28W Base / 64W/115W Max MTP
                Intel Core i7-1370P (Raptor Lake) - 28W Base / 64W Max MTP
                AMD Ryzen 7 7840U (Phoenix) - 28W Base / 40W Max
                Qualcomm 8cx Gen 3 (Snapdragon) - 7-9W max TDP
So, with the same power, the 2023 Raptor Lake CPUs will still be ahead in the single-core department over the 2024 Meteor Lake chips.
SHAME ON INTEL THESE COMPARISONS with 1 year old processors, we will see what they do with what will be released in a few days.

Slower than comparative AMD CPU, with about same power draw and battery run time. After all this hard work, Intel is almost semi-competitive. Until Ryzen 8040 Hawk Point debuts in January 2024 at CES. And it will be trounce the Meteor Lake Core Ultras. Nice try Intel, nice try.

justasmile, 14 Dec 2023Big chin at the bottom. Wondering about power efficiency though. The new Intel Meteor Lake chips are super power efficient and their iGPUs and presumably also their CPUs also beat AMD's chips in performance while matching and exceeding AMD in power efficiency. This is an actually great product, and this is where I for once would not discard a laptop off my list just because it has an Intel chip. These Samsung laptops seem amazing, where there's only small gripes at most like the slightly large chin.

damn i was planning on book 4 p 360 but not anymore why did they have to get rid of expansion slot

It's great that Samsung is making higher end professional workstations. They should also target laptops with the RTX4090 along with RAM upto 64Gb. That could be a productivity beast. The super wide DCI colours space is great.

if it has good battery, this is basically the windows macbook

soon finding a computing device without some BS ai accelerator will be like trying to find a new non-smart tv
                                        pretty sad, honestly
it's just a stupid gimmick for people who don't know anything about computers or how to use them (aka people who shouldnt be using computers)
never have i thought "oh, i need some AI to help me!!!!"
(if you don't know what i'm talking about, basically the next version of windows is going to be integrating AI crap into it and AI hardware will become standard)
