These type of contributions should never be patented. It's not the same as Nintendo patenting their D-pad for consoles, it's something that helps humanity to continue developing.

*BUT only when my BEST-friend-company is on the receiving end. It just stifles innovation if my most favorite trillion dollar company is not willing to pay fees for patents. Fruit owned patents are perfect and wonderful and I will not take questions.

Also, name dropping insulin...please Rofl while I lmao.
The patent which was sold for $1 (ONE Dollar) by the original inventors to ensure as many lives will be saved, but their generosity and charity which is now eviscerated due to USA Big Pharma's bottomless pit of greed...is brought up by rubes in an argument against patents. The world that we live in.

The patent is there is ensure the creator gets paid for it. What you're suggesting is self-destructive anarchy. Fun for a year or so, until everybody realises no one is getting paid for what they're doing.

finally, a perfect patent war that we didn't know.

As for the day it completely goes under with all of it's HR, CEOs and other useless decision staff that can be averted to mopping the floors it will be the day of reckoning.

If the dispute continues, and the watches ARE banned for sale in the USA, will Apple be forced to DISABLE that SpO2 sensor in people who already have the watch, since it is in violation of the patent?

Anonymous, 18 Dec 2023If it's a loss for Apple it's a win for innovation. What are you talking about? Patents are the enemy of innovation. We would've advanced so much more in so many areas if not for patent holders. A lot of things (like insulin for example) would be much cheaper too...

(And yes, Apple is also guilty of patenting a lot of stuff that never sees the light of day and suing others for infringement. I'm all for owning the rights to something you create and be compensated for it in some way, but the current system needs a major rework to avoid patenting simply for the sake of preventing others to use a technology, to avoid patent trolls and to avoid the patenting of life-saving technologies. Emphasis on the life-saving technologies.)

Ottonis, 18 Dec 2023Instead of hoping for a veto from the president, how about ... more‘Apple is thinking they are above all laws?’

Well no evidently. If they did then they wouldn’t neither voluntarily halt the sale of these devices nor comply with law compelling them to do so, now would they 🤷

Patent infringement cases are anything but clear cut, neither are they a rarity with practicality ever major tech company on the planet embroiled in more than one at any given time.

Have Apple infringed a patent or two here, up to the courts to decide. Though I imagine many of the self appointed tech genius’s who like haunt the comments sections of this site will have already made up their minds the moment they read the article. And will Biden veto the ruling, that’s up to him to…sorry… that up to his handlers to decide.

Translation: it's now up to a mush brain to decide. I'm sure that'll go well, and totally in the patent holders favour.

Instead of hoping for a veto from the president, how about Apple just start paying license fees as everybody else in the world is doing.
If Masimo hold the patent and Apple is using their patented technology, it's only fair to pay due fees.
Apple is thinking they are above all laws?

See, it's not only certain chinese brands that get into legal troubles with other companies.

Well, it's about time that Apple should "Watch Out". Pun Intended.
