Darth Caesium, 23 Dec 2023I honestly don't see why software updates shouldn'... moreYeah, that’s not happening for the reasons you stated. You should hope and pray that Google doesn’t abandon their new ambitious update policy, lol.

David 040882, 23 Dec 2023Damn, so you invest quite some cash in thisYeah, I even have 2 of the Infinix Zero Ultra, because the Coslight Silver model came to my country first, but I thought I might like the Genesis Noir version more, so when that came out I bought that as well, and I do actually like that more, it feels heavier (probably is), thus more premium.

David 040882, 23 Dec 2023Really? So you collect them for what, like just a collectio... moreBoth. I like to have my collection of phones, but I also do switch often, or very often, sometimes after 1 day, other times 1 week, maybe 1 month, but I only buy NEW phones that I know I'd enjoy using as my main, or buy OLD ones that are rare/interesting.
This means that my main phone isn't always the best one that I have, rather the one I enjoy the most. Currently my best phone is the vivo X Note, but my main is the Infinix Zero Ultra. Interestingly enough the Infinix is actually ahead when it comes to security patches.

Darth Caesium, 23 Dec 2023I honestly don't see why software updates shouldn'... moreBecause Qualcomm only supports their Snapdragon SoC updates within a certain amount of timeframe. And I think the same happen with other brands as well. Many says that this is the reason Google went to make their own custom Tensor SoC, to provide longer updates rather than be limited to a premade SoCs.

Darth Caesium, 23 Dec 2023How about 4 years of software *and* security updates? How about reducing the price by 50% , with only 3 years of security update. Once every 3-4 months.

justasmile, 23 Dec 2023That'll be great, but I think that's overkill.I honestly don't see why software updates shouldn't align with security updates as well. A Windows laptop or a Linux laptop can last basically forever, so why can't phones? Such a point is unrealistic as long as phone manufacturers heavily customise the software like they do right now, so is it not at least realistic to ask for a minimum of 4 years of software and security updates? I so hope that with Google's 7 years of software, security and feature drop updates, phone manufacturers will finally stop sitting on their high horse and do at least the bare minimum. Keep in mind Apple has done the same thing as Google has promised to do for a while now. If two major companies do this, it should coax others to do the same, and the ones with terrible software support like ZTE, Motorola, Realme and Transsion will either grow up and evolve or will be left behind.
