My top 5 phones of 2023 – Michail

25 December 2023
A trio of compact flagships and two foldables piqued my attention this year.

[deleted post]whenever a "top phones" list like this contains mainly only phones from top brands and otherwise phones that everyone has already heard of millions of times (true NPC choices), i start to wonder whether the article was written by a real person or by an ai. not really a "top phones" list if it only ever contains the same few phones from the same few brands every time

I love 120hz don't get me wrong, but if both the cameras and the battery give me a better experience I'd be willing to take the plunge. And ofc, everyone just looks at you different when you have an iPhone, you don't just buy a phone you buy a luxury product. Samsung phones tho? Bland af. That's why I love HUGE camera bumps on the chinese phones such as the Find X6 Pro or the Vivo X100 Pro, they're beautiful, distinct and have a luxurious flair. Even the Sony phone have an understated charm, Samsung lost that after the S21 Ultra and the Note20 Ultra, they were some of the most beautiful phones I had ever seen.

Who even cares about your top 5 phones

What is actually the point of this top 5 ?
Specifically phones site but cant even make top 5 without top 5 brands.
Well actually only the 3 of the top5 brands are presented but still.

To be honest boring is already cause all are flagship premium high cost phones. I actually dont think the foldables are phones. Flip version of folding phone is a phone for me still. But fold to side is a tablet. What you can call mini tablet these days. You can use tablets as a phone too when the tablet have the sim card slot.

Darth Caesium, 25 Dec 2023These are solid choices, even if I question the S23's ... moreI won't (or should i say I CAN'T) ever take the base S phones seriously from the S20 series onwards. Back till the S10 days the S series phones were similar and just had size differences or an edge panel, the cameras and display were mostly the same. The difference between the base S flagships and the S Ultra phone, for such little price difference is absolutely insane to me. Inferior cameras to an already middle of the road hardware for a flagship and then the display is nerfed as well. The iPhones are just better with less hardware compared to this. If both are gonna provide overprocessed photos I'll just go and take the phone with better photos and videos overall with better battery life as well.

all of these except one, is a notch lower (or two) than the top of the line...
15 pro, not the pro max... pixel 8, not pixel 8 pro, flip not the fold...
but it is ok... "usual choices"... maybe these are the best sellers this year...
that is why, i think it is ok... it seems to represent many users in the u.s.
it is just something i do not expect from a tech expert...

I agree these are some good phones in the list
The writer seems to be quite a fan of small phones. Good choices there. Cheers 🍻

Darth Caesium, 25 Dec 2023These are solid choices, even if I question the S23's ... moreThe SD8gen2 by itself is a huge upgrade for the Galaxy S series, especially for Exynos markets. SD8gen2 finally puts Android flagships toe to toe with Apple A chips.

These are solid choices, even if I question the S23's placement. I only do so because I feel that Samsung hasn't given enough upgrades to the S23 over the S22, or even the S21 for that matter. Still, the excellent battery life that even beats the S23 Ultra's makes it deserve a spot on that list.

Solid choices, Michail. I also went for the regular 15 Pro. I still don't think iOS is optimized for larger screens. Also, I don't see why people keep pointing out the 15 Pro's battery life when tests show it lasts longer than the S23 and Pixel 8? 🤔
