Having the SD card reader takes up more room that the engineers need to work around when they're building the phone. It also adds extra cost & requires more seals to keep the phone water resistant, not to mention that there are faster(external SSD) options with higher storage options(External SSDs, HDDS, and cloud storage) that are cheaper, especially when you're looking at higher storage options) All of this for a feature that a good majority of people don't use

So, do I think devices should still come with SD card slots? yes
Did I utilize the SD card slot? barely at all
Would I use a cheaper, better, and more convenient option instead of an SD card? yes I would.

    The sd card was removed because of corporate greed and you're supporting said greedy companies by buying into their crap and defending them with excuses (but then again they can't really come up with excuses on their own. Remember when Apple tried to convince people they removed the jack because there wasn't enough room? Joke of the century from the clown Apple)

For average users, 128/256 is almost always enough because they don't use super high quality photos/videos, don't download giant files, and don't download lots of media.
            For the "Pro users" who do do all of those things & are buying these expensive devices, those pro users most definitely also have a computer, tablet, and/or cloud subscription with much more storage than their phone.
            For backups, Samsung offers free cloud backups for messages, contacts, and system configuration. For photos, videos, and other files, you can again backup to another device like a computer, tablet, cloud subscription, or SSD. These backups can also be configured to be automatic, which is more convenient than backing up to an SD card.
            Further adding to the backup argument, if you lose your phone, you also lose your backup.
            if having an SD card slot is that important to you, go buy a sony phone.

              In my country(Romania), there is no trade-in offer, so I need to pay the price of 1300 euro if I want to purchase a S24 Ultra 512gb...
              I;ll keep my S23 Ultra since the S23 ultra it's having some downgrades

                boring, I'll keep my s23 ultra because of 5x telephoto instead of 10x.

                    All things are cheaper in USA... electronic, cars, fuel...
                    I don't want to go into worlds politics,but next time when you ask yourself why is Africa so pure even it have oil and diamonds... it's so you can pay $200 for aphone that others are paying 1200

Think expensively priced phones don't have buyers too? In any case, they do.

                            Double storage is nothing new. Samsung has been doing this for the past few years. And that's good imo. It shows that storage NAND chips are cheap.
