Leaking Oil, 06 Jan 2024The P60 Pro's sensor sizes, aside from the main sensor... more"Also, periscopes in general kinda suck for low light." Well, at f/2.1 no, they don't. I use it quite a lot in low light and it works just fine. You may be right about the sensor size of the tele (the previous P50 Pro had 1/2" and also 90 mm so it was an assumption they kept the same size) But it's not much difference between 1/2" and 1/2.5", one would be crop 5.4, another crop 6 ... if we consider the EXIF info, it says 14.55 mm at 90 mm, so it looks like it's a crop 6 so more like a 1/2.5".

Regarding Oppo Find X7 Ultra, it looks like a crop 4.1 or so, 1/1.56" so that's great combined with a f/2.6, it's a slightly narrower DoF than P60 Pro in this case (around 10% narrower). So it should have a great 65 mm lens.

Also, I don't think 65 mm is "pretty comical", it's pretty good for portraits. 135 mm will be good for things further away (but only in good light, as f/4.3 is 4 times darker than f/2.1). But the 1/2.51" sounds good for 135 mm.

Anonymous, 06 Jan 2024Allegedly, the f-number of the 135mm camera is 4.3. So, if ... moreIf Oppo uses a 50 megapixel 0.8 micrometer sensor for the 135mm camera instead of 50 megapixel 0.7 micrometer, this would make more sense due to the f-number, which is apparently 4.3 because 0.7 micrometer might give you barely more detail from distant objects than 0.8 micrometer due to diffraction, if the f-number is 4.3. The effective lens diameter would be approximately 5.9mm instead of 5.2mm (my previous comment with 5.1mm was related to a 48.8 megapixel sensor instead of 50.0), this would make more sense.

After Tata Motors bought Land Rover, Land Rover did not become Indian, right? Or after the Germans bought out Rolls-Royce, Rolls-Royce did become 100% German brand? I doubt that. The same is with Omnivision.

Allegedly, the f-number of the 135mm camera is 4.3. So, if the 135mm camera uses a 24mm² sensor, then the effective lens diameter will be only approximately 5.12mm whereas the Pixel 7 Pro has 5.43mm, the S23 Ultra has 5.55mm, the Pixel 8 Pro has 6.43mm, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra has 6.47mm, the BBK Vivo X100 Pro has 6.63mm, the Huawei P60 Pro has 6.93mm, the Galaxy K Zoom has 6.98mm and the Hubble space telescope has 2400mm. A small effective lens diameter makes distant objects blurry due to diffraction and it also leads to less light from distant objects per exposure time.

Allegedly, the Oppo X7 Pro also doesn't have a dedicated 12x button, which is strange. But tbis doesn't mean that there jsnw

For years all of the top end cam phones have been able to produce STELLAR results under full daylight using full photographic lighting setup (like in the samples above) and top pro photographers.

Anonymous, 05 Jan 2024Omnivision is from California. Only founders are chinese. Not sure about that. Their own website says they are the world's top Chinese semiconductor design group. The following is a quote from their Chinese website.

'OmniVision Group-Shanghai Weir Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (SH: 603501) is the world's top Chinese semiconductor design company. The group is headquartered in Shanghai, with R&D centers and business networks all over the world, with annual shipments exceeding 12.3 billion units.'

DanT, 05 Jan 2024An aperture of f/4 is not great if the sensor is not close ... moreThe P60 Pro's sensor sizes, aside from the main sensor, is unknown.
Huawei always has custom made sensors that nobody knows the size of.
Yes, f/2.1 is great for a periscope, but most periscopes above 90mm are limited to a higher f stop value due to how large the focal lenght is... The larger the focal lenght, the more f value.
The bigger the sensor, the higher the f value.
Also, periscopes in general kinda suck for low light. I have an S20 Ultra with a 1/2" sensor and f/3.5 on the periscope, and it absolutely sucks. Even f/2.1 on P60 Pro isn't the best in low light due to the nature of the periscope itself, and the speculated 1/2.51" sensor in it (Not confirmed).

X7 Pro will most probably have a 70mm 3x and a 135mm6x (if we consider the main being 23mm)
Also, periscopes are difficult to cram a large sensor and large focal lenght because of the size.
The only reason S22U/S23U has a 10x is because of it's tiny little sensor (1/3.52"), if it were bigger, it would be too thick to fit in a phone.
If you wanted a large sensor like a 1/1.56" in a periscope, you'd either have to live with a comically thick phone, or keep the focal lenght pretty small, like 3x or so.
Same way 1/1.56" f/2.6 was possible in the Find X6 Pro because of it's pretty comical 65mm.

I'm mainly curious about satellite communication outside of China, whether it will be usable.

For me, if it is as the leaks suggest, it will be the perfect smartphone (or almost, without the S Pen).

Of course, for it to be perfect (and use it for a long time, 4-5 years) I would have to reach at least the UK, to have a global ROM and not be left without any service.

Hopefully they will soon give the good news, that they no longer have problems thanks to an agreement with Nokia, and that they will also launch the Ultra internationally.

An aperture of f/4 is not great if the sensor is not close to 1" (hard to believe in a periscope) ... P60 Pro has f/2.1 on a tele periscope and 1/2" sensor which means it lets a lot of light in and the DoF is very narrow.

So hard to believe it can match the tele camera from Huawei P60 Pro. But hey, at least it will have two tele cameras with periscope, which sounds really good (probably a 65 mm and a 135 mm).

Or maybe it will be a f/2.6 max aperture as on the Find X6 Pro, but this time with adjustable aperture as the samples seem to suggest (if it's not a software simulated aperture). An adjustable f/2.6-f/8 periscope camera with a 1/1.56" sensor as last year's would sound quite interesting.

The issue with my current find x5 for colour accuracy and quality is its telephoto sensor and that's a samsung sensor, the 2 imx 766 senors are great. Also only other issues with pictures and video was my pixel 6 pro for glitches, colour accuracy, over bokeh effecting things, having constant white balance issues and terrible overheating when using the camera (again samsung sensors).

My mate 10 pro pretty easily beat my mates galaxy note 8 when they were current and my p40 pro destroyed both my mates gakaxy s20u in picture taking (overall quality, better colour rendition, better shadows/HDR effect, better bokeh) and its a no contest in video recording, p40 pro won EASILY!

We did the tests in person, side by side comparisons including low light, slo mo and low light slo mo vids, also zoomed pictures were better too and even they both admitted this and were SHOCKED by how much better the p40 pro, my mates find x2 pro at the time was only one compareable to it (its 10 bit panel just rendered things a little better after capturing the pictures).
