Goodness. I never realised owners were so passionate about their devices and the software/firmware contained therein. It's just a bloody mobile phone.
My Xperia IV takes and makes calls (surely the primary reason for phone ownership), shoots reasonable photos and video (we all really know that phones cannot contend with a dedicated DSLR for quality) and other apps and functions seen to work without problem. Basically, it does everything I expect of it and only cost me £270. Why you would need to spend over £1000 for a device these days is beyond me. What do you get that is four or five times better than mine for your money? It seems only bragging rights.

I think now it's the waste of money to buy a Sony smartphones, the quality in comparison to new junier brands in market are leaving Sony far behind in every aspects.
So far I am a Sony user for an about 18 years, but now I'm shifting my gadget.

Alexz80, 16 Jan 2024Just got update today to Android 14 for my Sony Xperia 10 ivMe too, but my phone didn't boot after that and got stuck on the "Xperia" logo. I had to use Sony's repair tool to get it back. The data has been erased, but luckily I have everything important in the cloud

I don't choose my phone because many other people chose it, I select ob what I want and what I think is good. You know, if I look around the streets, I see only a few Porsche Panamera driving around. A cheap VW is all the rage. Do you think it's better than the Porsche because there are so many around?
See I don't give a crap abiut what other people buy or not. And if I did care I would rather go for the things that are NOT bought by many people. Millions of flies eat crap...

Don't you have better things to do with your life? What excuses? Do you even know what this word means? I provide only facts.

justasmile, 10 Jan 2024You're clearly the one not understanding what he meant... moreAndroid OS upgrades: two within two years' time frame

Android security updates: every 30 days for the first year, every 30-45-60 days for the second year and every 90 days for the third year

Bug fix updates and improvements: randomly over the course of three years

justasmile, 10 Jan 2024You're clearly the one not understanding what he meant... moreNo he clearly didn't understand what i was refering to. I corrected your false claims that A14 is the last update for Xperia 1 V. Why did he quote me and what 1 III has to do with it? Nothing. Sony update policy is transparent - u get two Android updates, if someone has problem with it, just move on, choose another brand, go get your iphone. You wouldn't buy Xperia even if it had 10 years of promised updates. Why do people have to moan about it all over the internet? Get a life.

veloce, 09 Jan 2024That's correct, Xperia 1 III debuted with Android 11, ... moreYou're clearly the one not understanding what he meant, lol. 2 years of software updates is unacceptable for such high-priced phones that it even makes iPhone Pros more worthy of getting.

justasmile, 09 Jan 2024Fine for the 10 iv, not for the 5 IV and even the 1 iv...Actually, I couldn't care less if my phone is on Android 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 whatever. So I'm fine with that.

I am not fine that 1IV will not get some of the 1V features that are only UI changes, let alone camera improvements such as night mode, focus peaking, etc. That is the real issue of Xperia support and not Android version number which adds little to nothing to your Android experience every year.
