Anonymous, 30 May 2013made in U.S.A = very expensive!!!! not really
"The gadget, called the Moto X, will be made in the US and will be part of a campaign to drive down the cost of smartphones and end the high profit margins companies such as Apple have enjoyed, said Dennis Woodside, the Google executive installed to run Motorola after it was acquired in late 2011."
"Mr Woodside hinted that the new handset would go on sale later this year and be priced well below the iPhone 5, adding that the sort of steep price declines seen in consumer electronics from personal computers to televisions were overdue in the smartphone market.
Without naming the iPhone directly, he said: “Those products earn 50 per cent margins. We don’t necessarily have those constraints. Those [margins] will not persist.”"

Anonymous, 30 May 2013made in U.S.A = very expensive!!!! Not necessarily, if they make use of extensive automation assembly and testing.
Similarly, certain medium/high-end cars/clothings assembled/manufactured in the US are not necessarily more expensive for USA consumers in retail compared to those made in China ones as it takes extra costs to ship those across the Pacific.
I work in Asia-Pacific for US tech industry and my understanding is, for certain ranges of products, once the supply chain is gradually built up in the US territory, USA based electronics manufacturers can regain certain business from the rapidly rising costs in China.
Of course, these products/companies cannot rip off end consumers with the 50%+ margins that Apple iPhone command in the past. Just be reasonable to price your products, use smart assembly technologies and SCM techniques, the lower margin X high volume to US+world markets will certain gain more money for the US economy again.
This is what President Obama and the business+technology circles need to do and create strategies to revive the American
A note for the audience here: I am an Asian who studied in the US, have worked for US tech firm for years, so what I am proposing here is not based on egoistic American view. America got its edge in innovative technology and marketing muscles.
America just need to be proactive, creative, daring, and do NOT be bureaucratic and nationalistic when dealing with the world markets!^^ Execute your excellence America!^^
God bless America and the world+universe^^
