In a software driven (AI/ML algorithms) medical equipment which has the ability to continuously monitor correlated medical conditions has the better chances of measuring the parameters more accurately than discrete lab equipments which are probably used only once by each patient.

I have Watch 6 classic 47mm bought in USA which is stuck with November patch. I have even purchased $100 OMRON Elite 7600T. But only ECG is working (not sure how accurate it is!?) Hope the watch gets the required update soon.

It makes sense for Samsung to make these features only work with Samsung mobiles(like Apple ECOSYSTEM) since they have registered this watch as medical equipment here in India. Their data privacy policies would be compromised if this is used in other non Samsung mobiles as Knox integration may not be there

How is Samsung going to do the ecg is not clear

If it needs this and that , it's just huge gimmick.

So, are you indeed not interested in any customer to buy your flagship watches, even though they don't have a Samsung phone? This is too much!!

arnabJ, 16 Jan 2024It's not the android version but that it has to be a S... moreUntrue. Galaxy watches can be paired with any android with android 9 or newer. The only thing tying them to samsung devices is several features that don't work with other smartphones

justasmile, 16 Jan 2024No excuse for that feature to not exist in the first place. You are making it sound like it actually works - blood pressure does not work on Samsung, even when calibrated, and ECG was utterly inaccurate as well.
It is lovely, a lot of people want to have stuff on their smartwatch, regardless if the feature actually works.

So a a non Samsung phone user I shouldn't even bother to buy galaxy watch then????? Cmon Samsung,if we are paying for the watch so we should get all the features regardless of which phone we have

arnabJ, 16 Jan 2024It's not the android version but that it has to be a S... moreI see. I thought galaxy watches only support Samsung phones. I now know that it supports all phone, but have exclusive features if you're using Samsung phones. Which is understandable from a business perspective.

justasmile, 16 Jan 2024No excuse for that feature to not exist in the first place. They needed approval first from Indian Medical association and health ministry which is reason it was software locked in region.

which I think is fair as marketing and selling any medical ECG device/feature should must come under strict scrutiny and testing before public release as even small non compliance and bug can be catastrophic.

Fun fact: Even small medical Cotton is regulated by FDA as a bad quality one can cause itching and side effects on certain flesh and skin under CFR title 21.

Someone Else, 16 Jan 2024"which has to be a Samsung running Android 9.0 or late... moreIt's not the android version but that it has to be a Samsung device only. Other Android devices are not supported.

"which has to be a Samsung running Android 9.0 or later because why not gatekeep features when you can gatekeep features, right?"

...gatekeep? That's literally a 7-year-old software version. Even the latest Play Store minimum software requirements extend only up to Android 11.

No excuse for that feature to not exist in the first place.
