The S21U,S22U,S23U and the S24U have consistently had 8 bit displays (16mill) colors.

You misunderstand HDR10+. Does not mean the screen is 10 bit. Common layman misunderstanding, so I don't blame you.

Is weird because there are non flagship phones with 10bit and 12 bit screens lol. Another gen Samsung chooses 8bit screens lol

This S24 flood on this site is... heavy. Somehow reminds me Realme spam few years ago.

                S24 Ultra: Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X, 120Hz, HDR10+
                S24+: Dynamic AMOLED 2X, 120Hz, HDR10+
                S24: Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X, 120Hz, HDR10+
iPhone 15 Pro Max: LTPO Super Retina XDR OLED, 120Hz, HDR10, Dolby Vision
The most basic iPhone 15: Super Retina XDR OLED, HDR10, Dolby Vision

All HDR10 or HDR10+ which means they cannot be 8bit. You cannot have HDR with a color bit depth below 10.

The first iPhone to feature a HDR display was the iPhone X back in 2017.
The first Samsung device to feature a HDR display was the Note 7 back in 2016.

I hope S23 Ultra also gets HDR photos in Gallery. I’m surprised it’s not there. Like I have never seen how it looks, but I do know how good OLED tv looks.

Artem S. Tashkinov, 18 Jan 2024Is it really true HDR? HDR implies a bit depth which is wid... moreNo, HEIC doesnt mean you got HDR. HEIC has better compression, but for HDR there must be in hardware feature. HEIC supports 8-bit and 10-bit.

let me guess, they're using "AI" to detect if you're using one of those app to automagically increase the screen brightness to 100%, because for damn sure those platforms don't offer HDR content in order to save up on server storage...

Is it really true HDR? HDR implies a bit depth which is wider than 8 bit.

Have all these apps been updated to support HEIC/JXL because plain JPEG doesn't support HDR at all?

Very nice feature, most app doesnt have HDR compatibility. Other nice way has Xperia 1V. VideoPro (HDR up to 120fps) +VideoCreator app that can create with AI short film with music. Just one click. Both ways good :)
