29 January 2024
With hundreds of thousands of pre-orders, it's been quite the success in its niche.

naap51d, 30 Jan 20243500 for these goofy looking things? Sucker born every day... moreThat's the same price as a M3 Max 16-inch MacBook Pro with 36G ram and 1TB storage.

I can't quite see the value proposition for these headsets at the moment.

A HUGE number of these things have been pre-ordered by Corps to use for demo and content/app creation requirements. The uptake for the general public has been very tepid and the demand has been weaker than what Apple initially projected.

Right now the "tech influenzas" will be the next round of "100 reasons why you SHOULD buy this!~!!!!!!!11!" marketers when the devices start shipping out and then a few more ads will drop in the months after with a few "name-value" celebs shilling the product, since Apple is getting a little bit worried about the poor sales forecasting of this overpriced accessory. There's some real fear in Cupertino that this release could spell a backslide of APLE stock prices once the quarterly results come out later this year.

        > Random Joe who knows a few things inside, DON'T take my word for it. Just wait and watch.

The ad tries too hard to make it seem natural (dare to say cute) to be with this monstrosity on your face while serving your kids b.fast or talking to family. reality is that it is simply not. cringe ad

Paying more than 3500 dollars to “connect “ you with the world…
I prefer to stay “disconnected” and save that money to a worthwhile experience or trip that will truly last a lifetime in my memories.

And again. What was the battery life on it?

It looks like an interesting concept, and I would probably have a play on a demo unit, but it seems too much of a niche product that would end up spending more time in the cupboard drawer after the initial novelty wears off.
And the cost is ludicrous, I could justify the price of this unit simply based on the above.
I can almost see a dystopian future during long haul flights where 90% of the lemmings are all rocking one of these things, I think I would be too embarrassed to use this thing in public spaces.

The future is not about bulky stuff.

Ironic that the product is named "Vision Pro" when the very thing it does is probably impair your eye vision

The advanced (micro-OLED displays and 4K for EACH eye) tech does justify it's 3.5K USD price tag but are people overpaying? Yes and no. Apple did add a lot of cameras, sensors and R&D into that software. But on the other hand, get ready to be saving up a lot for this. I would really think long and hard if you really want this thing. 2-3 hours of constant use, 99 dollars for optical (150 for prescription) lens, and having to buy add ons to keep it safe, etc.

TL; DR - If your planning to buy this, you may need to be financially prepared and understanding.
