And there it goes another company that fails because they thought selling their devices using the name of a more reputable brand would be a big profit.

First Fossil now CAT, dark days for niche tech. Those thermal imaging lenses will be sorely missed.

From article
---
The versatile, rugged smartphones have been an attractive offer to people who need a tough but affordable device. Typical CAT owners weren't willing to overspend on a Samsung XCover series but wanted to stay away from Chinese brands such as Ulefone, Blackview and Oukitel.
---
If you have at least 600 euro to spend on a phone that is rugged and it's CAT then it be expensive as heck. Samsung Galaxy Xcover7 is around 350 euro
Xcover7 is with D6100+ that be around 400k in antutu v9 and CAT S75 is with D930 that is around 500k in antutu v9 but 250 euro more expensive and probably a lot less software support too.
Also Chinese brands have some nice rugged phones that actually are rugged and not like CAT and Samsung what looks like slim silicon case from aliexpress.

Its a shame thata good companies with actualy good phones made with a high end standarts and builds have to go.
While something like Samsung, Apple and Google which apart from high price fails to deliver high end quality but forces czustomers to pay what they asking for via many advertisings and many esle are still lurking here and creeping from shadows.

Mills, 31 Jan 2024Sad to see Fossil and Bullitt go; I never had a CAT phone o... moreBack in ~2016, I read an article that stated that everyone being on Android (aside from Apple) was a huge win for Google and a big loss for everyone else.
It seems, that outside of Samsung, no company is able to turn a profit easily on Android. At the time, LG was bleeding money, Sony was going down in sales and same for HTC.
You cant count any Chinese company as "profitting" bc in China, the CCP gives subsidies and investment to support them, and yeah, that includes Motorola due to their Lenovo parent company.
The article argued that asking for other companies like Nokia to join Android a few years earlier or during that timeframe, would end up giving the same results as them staying on Windows Phone.
Fast forward to 8 years later, and that article seems to have aged pretty well, since some of the brands mentioned are dead or pretty much cant be found easily when shopping around.

Many recent HTC phones are ODM products rather than in-house designs. I remember that Wildfire and Desire are entirely ODM, while some of the U-series really look like ODM but I cannot confirm.

Sad to see Fossil and Bullitt go; I never had a CAT phone or a Fossil watch but over the years, more and more companies are leaving the mobile game or are folding. Take LG, Kyocera and HTC for example. LG dropped out of the phone game entirely, Kyrocera dropped out of consumer phones and focusing on parts and machinery, while LG is making TV's and other marvelous and wacky inventions. HTC do make phones but it hasn't been active really. We'll see something pop up around Spring 2024 (for us Northern Hemisphere people)
