Gross simplifications and talking down to other people like they are dumb doesn’t have anything to do with facts either.

These „Ultra“ and „Pro“ flagsh... moresame can be said about what you are saying. Factually speaking, and I'll try to make it easy to understand
big number hard to make.
There you go. 4K screens cost more than 1440p screens if they're quality/generation matched. Processors higher up the stack cost more. Having more cameras is costlier. There can be an argument in terms of cameras that "oh bro more megapixel isn't always better" and in that sense it is fine but imagine if the camera size is large AND the megapixel count is huge, it'd be costly af and that's what's going on with these displays. Great quality displays by themselves, OLED screens with slim bezels infinite contrast and can go bright af, (can be compared to cameras which are huge) but differentiated by resolution count (can be compared to cameras which are huge AND have high megapixel counts).

These „Ultra“ and „Pro“ flagships use 1440p to win the spec wars not because it is any useful. I never said 1440p makes a display worse. Also, the only person „going off a rant“ here is you.
Dimensity 9300 is not a spec unlike 1260p
Games like Genshin render at around 800p on high end phones then upscale to match the phones resolution. The use case doesn’t matter, if a higher resolution uses more compute resources and thus battery without advantages it’s wasted. Like 8K on TVs, brightness penalty and or higher power consumption for no discernible advantage.
And you don’t know how much that „cheaper component“ costs, it‘s just your opinion. Overall, your comment is a lot of opinion you‘re trying to phrase as „facts“. That‘s not how facts work though.

FWIW if the X100 Pro cheapens out on anything it's the selfie camera that can't shoot 4K (same with Xiaomi BTW)

I think this should be the camera setup in all mid range phones.no useless macro 2mp and portrait 2mp cameras. Would have liked sony sensors on all 3 but its still better .and the ois and autofocus on uw and selfie are most welcome.

Anonymous, 04 Feb 20241260p is not cheaper out, it tracks the 450ppi threshold (w... moreFind X7 uses 1260p (1264p to be exact) whereas Find X7 Ultra uses 1440p, IQOO 12 uses 1260p whereas IQOO 12 Pro uses 1440p. Unless you're saying companies don't know how to math and cram a "worse" display on their higher end phones, I think you might be going off on a weird rant here.
Let's ignore that and talk about the fact that "it is not so standard", well the Dimensity 9300 is not as standard as the SD 8 Gen 3, is it more expensive or cheaper than the 8 Gen 3? If it indeed is more expensive than why would companies incur losses by putting 8 gen 3 in more expensive phones and Dimensity 9300 in cheaper phones?
Also, where does 1440p "waste" compute resources? So many games do not have a native resolution that matches the phone's resolution that it is baffling, Genshin for example never goes above 1080p even on iPhones, where they prioritize their optimisation, so you are saying a higher res display is a waste of compute power there? 90% of people would be using that display for watching videos, scrolling on social media apps or browsing the web, the sharper display would be put to use and would come at the most minute of compute power penalty when using 1440p instead of 1260p since those are very light tasks and chips of 2 years prior can go through those without an issue.
Seriously what's your problem here? I said I have no problem with this and it shouldn't be a deal breaker for anyone. I was just stating facts, 1260p is cheaper to make than 1440p, Vivo used a cheaper component. I have no issues with it, I do not/will not care about it if I use it.

PanRT, 04 Feb 2024v29 with ip68, vivo v30 only ip54?The V29 had it yes, but the V29 Pro didn't, it seems to be a regional thing, they know they can't compete in Europe without IP68, because of Samsung, but elsewhere IP54 seems to be just fine. This likely, but not necessarily means this won't be available in Europe, but hopefully this year the Pro version will be available.
I don't think IP ratings mean much anyways, it just means that the company has paid separately for an already water resistant phone to have this number attached to it. Even phones without this rating can be water resistant if they have tiny rubber gaskets protecting the speakers, charging port(s) and such things.

jiyen235, 04 Feb 2024Looks good but I think this phone further highlights how th... more1260p is not cheaper out, it tracks the 450ppi threshold (was 300ppi for LCD but 450ppi for AMOLED to achieve the same sharpness because of the subpixel matrix) closer than 1080p or 1440p. 1080p does not provide enough sharpness and 1440p wastes compute resources. I bet 1260p is more expensive than 1440p because it is not so much a standard resolution, like 16:10 laptop displays are more expensive than 16:9.

Looks good but I think this phone further highlights how the X100 Pro is sort of cheap because it uses a 1260p display, I'm not saying it's a deal breaker but it indeed is a place where they cheaped out. I don't even care though lol phone's already the flagship of the year for me right beside the Oneplus 12 and the IQOO 12 is the flagship killer of the year.

Mid range camera sensors are getting bigger but still some flagships using small sensors. Don't say bigger doesn't mean better, reviews have proven they have improved.

Major upgrade in the chipset and camera departments, maybe it's wishful thinking that the price stays the same? I'm actually holding out on getting a V29. If I can't afford the V30, maybe the V29's price will drop anyway so it's still good lol
