15 February 2024
AI is definitely the buzzword of the year. Just ask Samsung.

Nikojas, 15 Feb 2024This “ new neural engine” will allow them the excuse not to... moreExactly, Apple has been pushing their neural engine thing for years now, and it's been been nothing more than gimmicky marketing - it is positively useless when it comes to developping and training models.

I don't expect this 'new' one to be any different, they're just overdoing the AI thing while it's the buzzword du jour.

I can't stop noticing now every time GSMarena sneaks an AI image into their articles 💀

This “ new neural engine” will allow them the excuse not to bring the AI features to older iPhones and the 15 series, as they try to create a new reason for upgrading …. I reckon.

I'm ready for the death of the smartphone. It is getting too dystopian.

We already se... moreAgreed, and that would be the kind of stuff that could be handled by versions of the neural engine going back as far as the A14, maybe even A13. It's certainly wouldn't require a vastly improved version when thinking about what is in the A17.

So, yeah what exactly are they up to....🤷‍♂️

Really curious what kind of AI Apple will do. We already see what Google and Samsung do, real-time translator, visual search, and cloud based photo editing. TBH those are kinda weak. So I have higher expectations for Apple as they are not the first mover. If it's just more photo editing stuff, we'll I'll be disappointed.

'since the iPhone Neural Engine has had the same number of cores (16) since the iPhone 12.'
So what you're saying is that iphones 13 to 15 only had marginal improvements an AI cral?

                      ‘vastly improved’ neural engine?!?!…..

Yikes, what exactly are they cooking up as it’s not like the previous neural engine was sluggish!

Cuz todays generative ai relies on cloud

Meanwhile Google is doing all AI on the cloud what a cr@p company

you have to suffer, 15 Feb 2024more AI to ruin microscopic detail on your photo. and also,... moreThey already bren doing that... deep fusion is one.

Out of all companies I think Apple is the least capable of making AI. But I wouldn't mind being surprised that they came up with something great.
AI flourishes when it's created with an open mind because we're just at the beginning and nobody knows what will work and what won't. That's the exact opposite of how Apple operates controlling every ever so tiny detail of the UX. That's why Siri is worse than the other assistants because it can only reply with the few sentences Apple allowed it to use.
