AnonD-1040250, 18 Feb 2024I don't know why they have to release a whole new vers... moreI agree with you.
But they need to sell new devices to make profit.
So, they push new android os update by making old andoid os useless.

For my phone as an example,
I bought a phone in year 2020 with android 10, this same device got os update till android 12 but will not get any os updates in future.
I can use this same phone between 3 to 5 year maximum with android 12 as per my need.
After that i have to buy new or repair current one.

But a few percentage people don't wait that long.
I have friends, relatives who changes them within 1 to 2 year, thus generates more profit for the company.
To convince them to buy a new device, the company will try to add little improvement and sell it.

I don't know why they have to release a whole new version why not lump it onto previous as an update if there is a minimal change it's ridiculous.

Anonymous, 17 Feb 2024Ye i think its ridiculous they keep updating Android withou... moreThat's called reaching maturity and happens to everything (in tech and otherwise). What are you truly missing that would require a revolution? In the early days the answer is plenty, so every new version is a revolution. In the later days the answer ranges from very little to nothing at all, hence you get these iterative improvements that get increasingly hard to tell apart.

iOS, Android, Windows, all modern OSes face this very same issue. In fact, at this maturity state, changing the interface will only piss your users with little to no improvement (Microsoft may have finally realized that, eventually... because it's Microsoft).

So you will get Android-experience on mobile-size display, but you will get ChromeOS-experience on bigger display, even though it's still the same OS after all.

But yes, they are quite good at ruining things. Multi window view was broken on 13 as home button minimizes even the top app. And mini view was replaced by a broken One Handed mode on Android 10.
