My stack is similar but I use a TongFang laptop as a desktop replacement. iPad Mini 6 is the only Apple device in my stack and best for taking notes. Also I have a collection of game consoles, mostly jailbroken, Steam Deck and GPD Win 2. And some Chi-Fi gear... So a lot of electronics to organize and dust haha

Well there is method to my madness, and I will explain step by step, how it all logically comes together. It is a thought experiment: how do you get the best electronic experience? You have so many device types, so many companies, and so many services. And there are arbitrary limitations within those services. For instance, you might grab the latest Android Phone only to miss out on an exclusive App that's found on iOS. Or get a sweet Mac Pro Desktop and miss out on some necessary Windows Feature, as a second example. So where do you draw the line? Do you just get 12 devices and shuffle between them?
No, the solution is to be choosey. Think of devices in terms of form-factors and then think of which platforms fit best for those. Here are the main options:
- Phone
- Tablet
- Laptop
- Desktop
- TV Unit
And then:
- Apple
- Microsoft
- Google
- Open-Source
- Proprietary
The worst combination you can make is this:
Form-Factor - Platform - Example
- Phone, Microsoft = HP Elite X3
- Tablet, Open-Source = JinPad A1
- Laptop, Google = Acer Chromebook
- Desktop, Proprietary = IBM Z-Station
- TV Unit, Apple = 4K+ Apple TV Console
And the most optimised combo you can make is this:
- Phone, Google, AndroidOS
- Tablet, Apple, iOS
- Laptop, Microsoft, WindowsOS
- Desktop, Open-Source, ZorinOS
- TV Unit, Proprietary, Sony OS
And personally I think the best combination is this:
- Pixel 8 Pro, best software freedom, Razer JungleCat controller
- iPad Mini 7, sideloading coming, GameSir G8 controller
- Frameworks 16-AMD build, XSX controller
- Custom PC (r7-7800, RX-6800, or better), Logitech Gaming Mouse
- Sony PS5 Pro, with the DS5 controller
That way you have access to exclusive Programs, Apps, and Games at each point. Wether it is pocketable, or portable, backpack, in your room or in front of the TV. You get the best of everything, without missing out on much of anything.

I love it.....but I am certain Apple will slow it down as they do to all their devices......the M1 is more powerful than an Intel Core i9.......so you should never have performance issues till 2030.....but Apple will think of someth8ng to force us to cop new devices.....but I love my new m1 MBP and m1 iPad pro....

Still, imho, the most comfortable controllers for iPad Mini 6 are JoyCons, after support has been added in iOS 16. My GameSir is X3, so not really moddable and I prefer to use it with my S24 Ultra as is.

All the M2 and M3 Silicon power, yet it's bogged down by what is effectively a glorified iOS for tablets. I rather wait for the next-gen vanilla iPad or iPad mini.

kingvit, 22 Feb 2024Latest rumors said 2026 though. https://www.gsmarena.com/r... moreFirst things first, the GameSir G8 controller looks very comfortable and it seems to connect with Apple devices too. Officially speaking it does not support/fit into the size of the iPad Mini. However, there is a small plastic clip which can be easily removed ("modding") and then it will actually support the iPad Mini. I've seen someone use it with the iPad Pro, which is substantially larger than the iPad Air let alone the iPad Mini. So that looks like a great controller, with this which looks like a great tablet. Continuing on....
....the latest rumours are wrong!
Apple does look after the iPad Mini lineup, and updates it every 1.5 - 2.5 years. The current one is over 2 years old already. There is almost no chance that they will delay it for an additional 2 years without an update, making the Mini 6 nearly 5 years old when it gets updated.
There is a very strong chance that it will get updated in the next weeks. The iPad Mini 7 is likely going to be a refresh, rather than a major overhaul. That means same features, same number of cameras, and same base technology. The early rumours said M1 chipset, later said 8.7 inch size bump, then way later was the OLED rumours surfacing. I would love to see it come with the M1 chipset, but it's looking like it might instead get the newer but slower A17-Pro chipset. The A17 chipset is basically the A16 cranked up in power, and that is basically the A15 cranked up higher. So we're not talking about efficiency upgrade, so we're only left by performance alone. The problem with having the A17 in the next model is that it means the next upgrade in 2026 could be to the A18 Bionic. Whereas with the M1 that wouldn't be substantial so they would likely bump it up to the lukewarm M3 chipset, in the era of M4 and M5 chipsets. With the screen, they will focus on fixing the quality problems they had on some of their "jelly wiggle" units and eliminate that, but I don't know what type of upgrades they want to include. There is the potential size-up to an 8.7inch screen, or an upgrade to a 120Hz, or stick with the same but have a much more expensive screen (brightness, dimness, accuracy, etc etc). Or there might be no upgrades to the screen. As for cameras, they will all get upgraded in both software and hardware, but only in small increments. We won't be seeing the iPad Pro camera modules making their way to the Mini lineup. TouchID seems to be locked in, now in a convenient location in the power button. FaceID could be coming in the 2026 model if they make the transition to OLED, but there are other moving pieces in this puzzle. For example, the M1 MacBook Pro units all had a cutout for FaceID but they removed the feature, and they haven't added it into the M2 and M3 successors. It is not know if or when they will move towards implementing FaceID on Mac's, let alone the budget iPad models.

I'm still waiting for the rumoured iPad Mini 7. It is supposed to come this year, with an upgrade to M1 chipset, and a screen size bump up (less bezels). Also it was rumoured that the software will get the ability to Sideloading Apps (thanks EU). That makes it a portable gaming power house when you combine it with something like the GameSir G8 controller.

Make the new one a 1mm bigger or move the camera bump a little bit so the old cases wont fit.
Again and again.
