S23 Ultra user, 29 Feb 2024S24 Ultra is such a downgrade compared to the S23 Ultra...
... moreSpoiler: It is my very personal assessment only
3x and 5x is useful for everyday photos/videos, as more than that actually is just okay-to-have. I do normally print the photos, yeah both are useful and better for this use.
More than 10x to Less than 30x is just additional bonus to watch things closer and clearly, but not good for printing.
100x zoom is a gimmick lol

S24 Ultra is such a downgrade compared to the S23 Ultra...
I tried the cameras, they are so incredibly mediocre. The zoom is also a complete letdown. Absolutely ridiculous that they removed the 10x zoom. Having 3x and 5x is completely useless. They could have very well gone with the way Sony did it with the proggressive zoom from 3.5x to 5.2x, but nope, they chose to add two different cameras.

Anonymous, 29 Feb 2024my wife had s23 ultra, i bought x90 pro+ from china instead... moreCan you explain the meaning of "boring" in this Android phone world?
All looks the same for me. The difference may be the photos/videos result, and it is just slightly different from the eyes of ordinary people like me.
The flagship phone surely help the ordinary people to take better photos/videos.

jiyen235, 28 Feb 2024"So yes, if you want the best and money is no object, ... moreI totally agree with you. I wrote a similar comment when 24 Ultra appeared - too many compromises 😐.
And now the Xiaomi Ultra has come out, which puts ALL the others in its little pocket 😄.

The last big phone I had was the Oneplus 1, since then I've been buying compact flagships. Those huge phones are not for me, but I've been missing the s-pen for too long, since the last time I had one was on Note 4.
I was ready to pull the trigger on S23U, but S24U's flat screen made me change my mind. Unfortunately a tempered glass is absolutely important for me and I've had enough with curved screens and difficult to apply UV tempered glasses. So I'll have to wait a little until S24U's price falls.

potato4k, 28 Feb 2024Merely stating facts doesn’t make one a fanboy nor hater. M... morewhat part of what I said was merely feelings and not fact? And where are you spouting your dumbahh facts from? "2nd rate" "3rd rate". Most Chinese people stay away from that because that's the general population you numbnut, the general population tends to go for "Normal" and "safe" products, that's why Apple is so common. You can't go wrong with them AND in Asian countries at least, they hold significant status power. So what else do you have to say about that? Just simply stating quantitative values won't make anything make sense without some in depth qualitative analysis. Who gave the rating system for the software and hardware? Are you implying Samsung is somehow 1st rate in both software and hardware or something? If no then, what is the best product? And if yes then holy balls you're high or sumn

jiyen235, 28 Feb 2024you're either a Samsung fanboy or a Chinese phone hate... moreMerely stating facts doesn’t make one a fanboy nor hater. Meanwhile all you are spouting are just your feelings with zero facts. But go ahead, if you like spending your money on 2nd rate components and 3rd rate software, more power to you. Meanwhile, the market speaks for itself, when even Chinese people won’t even touch BBK nor Xiaomi if they could.

Rareart1, 28 Feb 2024They don't. Good point. Is a error written on the article. Is before the reflective picture, where it talks about the glass type.

potato4k, 28 Feb 2024LOL. Money is no object and you would rather get Chinese ph... moreyou're either a Samsung fanboy or a Chinese phone hater. I could've agreed with you about the build, I'm not too confident in the sturdiness of the phones but that doesn't matter since I'm very careful with my phone and it looks as good as new even after 2 years, only a few drops on my S22 Ultra. What I can't agree about is 2nd rate components overall, because that simply isn't true. Cooling is a toss-up, battery degrades the same either way, processor is the same, the displays are so good now that it's all down to how well it's calibrated by the manufacturer. The cameras though are far superior on a hardware level and that along with very good computational photography nowadays means that as cameraphones those are superior, maybe not all the time during videography but at least for photography they're superior. I can use Pro Mode, Gcam or the native camera app and still get decent photos. Not the case on a Samsung.
3rd rate software? I'd say they "look" 3rd rate due to their iOS copying tendencies but even Google and Samsung copy Apple and Apple copies Android in a lot of instances so everything's starting to blend together now apart from the look. The only thing I can say is positive about Samsung is their update speed, I respect them for that but I don't really care honestly.
People buy iPhones regardless of their nationality, look at Japan, even their beloved Sony can't compete. That's because iPhones have iOS, and other perks which Samsung can't give. Either way, I don't understand your hate for Chinese phones/BBK. You seem to like Huawei though I wouldn't understand why.
Phones are all the same software wise for me nowadays apart from some niche software features and update speeds. Hardware separates them and even then they all blend together. You're just delusional if you think Samsung is the best. "Poor person's mindset". Woww we got Jeff Bezos here everybody

Sounds like a poor person's mindset who only look at spec. Even Chinese people who have money pick Apple or Huawei, not BBK.

I dared hope you guys weren't shills too. To say the things you said without any critique? Also the fact none of you reviewers anywhere talk about gcam ports is suspicious. Since a proper gcam port destroys the native camera in both devices in terms of quality.

Main difference for me: 2 50mp cameras and 50mp is more hdr in S24U.
What I wish for: 1. SW to gain hi res, no need for 3x if it helps to acquire such better SW.
2. Foldable screen with that specs or foldable screen case.
3. VR with such camera specs.
4. UV, IR filters to be removable.

I had the S22U and now the S23U. I'd like the flat screen and slightly better camera but it's not enough to justify the price for me. I did get a Galaxy 6 watch though which I love a lot more than I thought.

"But while we could be complaining all day about it, the fact remains that the old Ultra is no worse than the new one - slightly better, in fact, in the "time to 100%" metric.'
76 minutes to full is not better than 65, dear GSMArena :)
