The "smart"phone designed by the same team that launched pastel-and-whimsy Material You? Squiggle animations and oversized rounded buttons? The worst looking, least intuitive timepicker widget in the past two decades? A WEATHER widget that only shows the TIME when it's narrower than 3 icon widths? Icons that are no longer immediately identifiable? System will keep pestering you every three months if you actually want a password manager installed? or assumes you want permissions cleared if you don't use every app every week?

Yuck. Pixel didn't win. Rather, nobody else competed.

    Surprised to see the Pixel win.

    The problems with Pixel 6 and 7 were crazy. People could not call emergency services, and the fingerprint reader sometimes accepted another finger, or your nose or whatever, to unlock.

    Did they actually fix all these issues?

      Judges awarded Pixel 8 as the best smartphone?

      Then their opinions are not to be taken seriously. As is the case with most award show judges.

            Must be a prank

            With it's poor battery life and performance when compared to other flagships
            The only thing they brought to the table was AI

                            The Tab S9 Ultra is way too big for my liking, so I'm more than happy to take the vanilla Tab S9. Also, if I want to have a tablet with similar size to the Tab S9 Ultra, I'll make sure it runs on Windows, not Android.

                              Seeing the fact that S24 exists, Pixel 8 shouldn't even win that award.

                                Pixel joining MWC? all I know are Xiaomi, TCL, Tecno, Motorola and the like..

                                    Total victory for the extraordinarily incredible pioneers Google Pixels. 7 years of OneUI are worthless. 5 years of iOS are few.

                                        Pixel 8 best smartphone? With the poor battery and below-peers performance? It might take the win in the software department, as well as some honorable mentions at the camera department, but there are better-rounded packages out there
