I mean, Apple music is superior than Spotify in terms of sound quality. Apple music lossless ALAC vs 320kbps Vorbis.

    Spotify win in music discovery.

"Apple goes on - "free isn't enough for Spotify", it "wants to bend the rules in their favor by embedding subscription prices in their app without using the App Store's In-App Purchase system", using "Apple's tools and technologies" and benefitting from the trust Apple's built with users, "and pay Apple nothing for it"

Bet you didn't see this right?

AnonD-120291, 05 Mar 2024I literally just said Microsoft were fined for bundling IE ... moreNormal user cannot uninstall system webview nor the Chrome browser on Android. Plus it's a requirement for OEMs to get access to GMS. It's actually worse than what Microsoft did. On Windows, OEMs can ship their machines blank without Windows or any OS. On a smartphone, they couldn't do that.

Who cares about Apple or Nokia, they're not the majority in market share. Microsoft got punished because they are the majority. Google is the majority in mobile, yet gets a free pass with people defending them. Really odd double standard.

Vale, 05 Mar 2024Weird decision seeing as how Spotify monopolies the markets... moreApple were fined for not letting regular Spotify user (from EU) to know the information of other payment alternative through spotify app.

            Get your fact straight..

While in many countries on Asia, iphone user can make payment using multiple payment alternatives inside App store and in 3rd party Apps without even using Apple pay/ App store gift card.

EU should take that money and invest in Nokia so they can have a competitive tech company so when Apple, Google, Facebook, and Amazon leave the EU, they will have a backup plan.
Or give it to Spotify so they can pay artists they constantly ripoff.

Mobile devices don't fall under the same category and are not subject to the same rules under competitive operating (In broswers at least).
Nokia had their own Symbian, google has its own Chrome, apple has its own Safari, windows had its own Explorer and so on, and to this day I don't think any device prompts you which browser to install, so no it is not double standards.
Its been a minute since I got my new macbook pro, but I am pretty sure it does not present me with a browser option either although I could totally be wrong its been 2 years since my last purchase so cant actually remember.

Vale, 05 Mar 2024Weird decision seeing as how Spotify monopolies the markets... moreNot sure if you remember depending on your age, but way back in the early 2000s, microsoft got taken to court simply because it bundled its own browsers as part of its operating system, and didn't give the user a choice.
Users could simply go online and download any of the free browsers, but they were still taken to court for anti competitive behaviour by not offering choice and got nailed for around $600m back in 2013.
Basically those same rules are now being put on apple, who by the way operate in a FAR more draconian and anti competitive behaviours which often skirt on the line of illegal, something which the EU is actively trying to crack down on.
This is simply good news for the user/owner in the UK/EU, its about having freedom and choice, something apple likes to keep a very short leash on and is deservedly getting its hands smacked, if they were not so greedy and bashing developers silly tax rates then all this sort of behaviour wouldn't happen, yes they deserve to get a cut for hosting if they are doing work, but not 30%, thats just daylight robbery.

Well, time to cash in that check for their fancy dinners and private jet trips. Kudos for the EU regulators.

Lot of L's Apple is taking lately, glad to see it. Their reign over the US society should've been ended.

EU user sure is dumb since they only get single course of information. no wonder apple took advantage of their dumbness

Weird decision seeing as how Spotify monopolies the marketshare. How is it unfair that Apple is actively developing it's os and app store policies to promote their own music service? They say users can't make an informed decision, as if the entire planet doesn't already know what streaming services are available besides apple music. And a fakin 1.8 BILLION fine??? I'm not an Apple fan, I would never buy any Apple product, but the EC seriously abuses it's power here and i agree with Apple that they are trying to bend the rules to appeal to the competition

What a seething response from the fruit company, never knew Apples were so salty! It also has that smell...that stench...that Musk that you can smell from similar angry CEO baby's posts on the platform formerly known as Twitter. And that sound? The sweet sound of glass prisons coming crashing down, the ones surrounding those walled gardens marinating in their own hubris.

"no you should not promote your own service on your own platform"
