DSCC: Samsung was the top foldable maker in Q4, but Huawei will overtake it in Q1

12 March 2024
At least temporarily, until the new Galaxy Z generation arrives. Clamshell foldables will become more popular this year.

Bought Galaxy Z Fold 4 on Oktober 2022..all run smooth..really love it..the battery life is good as well. However, I encountered strange bug on 22 Nov 2023. I opened the big screen to do multitask as usual, at first it was ok, but after few second, it turned black and unusable. Brought it to service center, they charge 500 dollar to get it fix!! I refuse as they said the problem potentially will happen again. what a waste!!!

NickValok, 12 Mar 2024Samsung sells foldables all over the world, but Huawei only... morePopular in China is an understatement. They've increased sales by 100%+ yoy, and book foldables (specifically the X3/X5) outsell flips at almost twice the cost.

There is also strong nationalism in China and the people have been rallying behind Huawei. I don't think that nationalism works globally, but their hardware would appeal to anyone interested in foldables if they were available outside the mainland.

The biggest question remains. How durable are they? We don't know.

More USA sanctions against Huawei coming in 3, 2, 1.....

In their current state, I don’t understand why anyone would buy a foldable. The crease is too distracting and annoying.

NickValok, 12 Mar 2024Samsung sells foldables all over the world, but Huawei only... moreI reckon they are definitely popular in China and they are way cheaper there compared to Europe for example. Like normal phones and tech in general there being cheaper. Price is the main reason they are not as popular outside of China for the moment imo.

If Honor starts to provide Honor cloud along with their Honor ID I'll gladly buy Honor V2 because that device is a peice of work. But Huawei without Google services is a bad investment honestly even though I'm a Huawei fan.

Samsung sells foldables all over the world, but Huawei only sells foldables in China, so if Huawei sells more, does that mean foldable phones are popular in China or are foldables not popular in other countries?

I think both answers are correct.
